Rangers' transfer activity finally kicked into gear this month, with Russell Martin making several much-needed additions to reshape his squad and ignite the Ibrox revolution.

With seven new signings and five departures, it's been a busy month, but with the league opener at Fir Park tomorrow, there’s still plenty of work to be done.

So, what happened in July?

In:

Joe Rothwell - Rangers’ first signing of July came in the form of midfielder Joe Rothwell from Bournemouth.

A familiar face to Russell Martin from their time together at Southampton during their Championship promotion-winning campaign, Rothwell also played a key role in Leeds United’s Premier League return last season.

The Englishman has already shown flashes of his quality in pre-season, particularly with composed displays against Panathinaikos in Rangers' UEFA Champions League second qualifying round triumph.

At a reported £400k, he looks a bargain and could prove to be the final piece in the midfield trio alongside Nico Raskin and Mohamed Diomande.

Emmanuel Fernandez - A development project with potential, Emmanuel Fernandez arrives from Peterborough for a fee believed to be around £3.5m, a notable outlay for a player yet to fully establish himself.

Towering at 6’4” and physically imposing, Fernandez is strong in the air and composed on the ball. While raw and unlikely to be a regular starter straight away, he provides depth and long-term promise as the hunt for other central defenders continues.

Thelo Aasgaard - One of the more exciting additions on paper, Norwegian international Thelo Aasgaard joined from Luton Town, but his Ibrox debut has been delayed due to injury.

He picked up a knock in a behind-closed-doors friendly with Dunfermline and missed both legs of the Panathinaikos tie. He has also been ruled out of the squad for the trip to Fir Park.

Quick, creative and with an eye for goal, fans will hope his injury layoff doesn’t stretch much longer.

Nasser Djiga - Another addition aimed at solving Rangers’ defensive vulnerability, Nasser Djiga joins on a season-long loan from Wolves.

Like Fernandez, Djiga boasts a strong physical profile and adds immediate depth to the backline.

While Fernandez is one for the future, Djiga is expected to contribute right away, at least until a more permanent solution in central defence is secured.

Djeidi Gassama - One of the summer’s more exciting arrivals, Gassama joined from Sheffield Wednesday with some fanfare and has already made a huge impression.

The 21-year-old winger scored twice against Panathinaikos in the Champions League qualifiers, showing pace, composure, and real quality in the final third despite limited minutes from the bench.

He has already repaid his £2m transfer fee with his goals, and with Wedneday fans claiming he was worth at least £10m, he already looks a bargain.

A former PSG youth player, Gassama is quick, direct, and fearless in one-v-one situations, bringing much-needed flair to Rangers' front line.

If his early form continues, he could become one of the breakout stars of the Martin era.

James Reid – A development signing from Queen’s Park, 16-year-old Reid will join up with our under 19’s initially and could be one we see coming through in the coming years.

Mikey Moore - One of the most exciting young prospects in English football, Moore arrives at Ibrox from Tottenham with a big reputation and bags of potential.

Still only 17, the winger is highly rated for his close control, sharp dribbling and eye for goal, and already has youth international caps for England as well as Spurs youngest ever European goal scorer.

A short-term boost for Rangers wide areas despite his age, this is one we could look back on with pride that he played for Rangers in future years once he reaches his peak.

Could Rangers move revive career of promising young attacker?

Out:

Robin Pröpper - The Dutchman has returned to the Netherlands, rejoining FC Twente after a year-long spell in Glasgow. The experienced defender never truly settled and heads back to familiar ground.

Ross McCausland - The academy graduate has joined Aris Limassol on loan, with an obligation to buy if certain performance targets are met.

A fresh start abroad for the winger, who showed flashes of promise but never quite made the grade. He will reuinite with former teammates Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun in Cyprus.

Mason Munn -The stopper has gone on loan to Neil Lennon's Dunfermline Athletic, where the young goalkeeper will look to gain valuable first-team experience in the Championship.

He made his Rangers debut in the Scottish Cup last year, keeping a clean sheet against Highland League side Fraserburgh but the Ibrox hierarchy feel it is time for him to play regular football for a team that will be pushing for Premiership promotion.

Also exiting the club on loan are young goalkeeper Alfie Halliwell, the 17-year-old has joined Lowland League side Albion Rovers on loan, while fellow youth player Jack Wylie will spend the season at Kelty Hearts, with the defender gaining invaluable SPFL experience.

A trio of released players have also found new clubs. Kerr Robertson has joined Greenock Morton, Jay Hogarth has signed for Clyde and Jack Harkness has completed a move to Stirling Albion, where he spent last season on loan.

The club have told Ridvan Yilmaz, Rabbi Matondo, Leon King, Jose Cifuentes and Ben Davies they can leave. Rangers have reportadly accepted a bid of £750k for Davies from Birmingham, whilst Cifuentes has been linked with a move to Brazil.
