Rangers look set to secure the signing of midfielder Joe Rothwell, with new head coach Russell Martin finally beginning to bolster his squad following the recent takeover and a fresh injection of funds via a share issue.

The Ibrox side added Max Aarons last week on a season-long loan from English Premier League outfit Bournemouth, and the full-back will now be joined in Glasgow by his Cherries teammate Joe Rothwell, this time on a permanent basis.

While the transfer fee remains undisclosed, it is expected to be relatively modest. Rothwell was entering the final year of his contract at Bournemouth and had spent the past 18 months out on loan, initially under Martin at Southampton, and more recently with Rangers’ new ‘sister’ club, Leeds United.

Rothwell began his career at Manchester United, emerging from the academy during the final stages of Sir Alex Ferguson’s legendary tenure. Since then, he has built an experienced CV in English football, with spells at Oxford United, Blackburn Rovers, Southampton, Leeds, and Bournemouth.

His arrival is expected to add energy, experience, and a physical presence to the midfield. Rothwell is likely to form part of a central trio alongside Nico Raskin and Mohamed Diomande as Rangers prepare for a pivotal campaign in the hunt for title number 56.

Although no official club announcement has been made yet, sources have told Inside Ibrox that Rothwell was at the Rangers Training Centre earlier today for promotional photographs ahead of his unveiling.

Elsewhere, there’s been a shake-up at academy level, with Brighton prospect Zebedee Lawson joining the club. Meanwhile, promising young defender Oliver Goodbrand has departed for Newcastle United. Both deals are structured as cross-border development transfers.
