Rangers appear to be on the brink of confirming their second signing of the January transfer window, with Belgian left-back Tuur Rommens already training alongside the first-team squad at the Rangers Training Centre.
Despite no formal announcement from the club at the time of writing, the 22-year-old had taken part in full sessions with Danny Rohl’s group, a clear indication that the deal is effectively complete and only awaiting final administrative sign-off.
Rommens is expected to be unveiled imminently as a Rangers player and will wear the number 25 shirt once his move is officially confirmed.
The Westerlo defender has been a long-term target for the Ibrox club, with his name first linked back in December as Rohl identified left-back as a key area for reinforcement – with 19-year-old Brentford loanee Jayden Meghoma the only natural option there for the first half of the season.
Since then, Rangers have worked steadily behind the scenes to secure the Belgian’s signature, with only minor paperwork and registration formalities believed to be delaying the official announcement.
The sight of Rommens training with the squad suggests those final hurdles are close to being cleared.
His arrival will address a long-standing imbalance on Rangers left side of defence. With limited natural options in that role and injuries stretching the squad, Rohl has been keen to bring in a physically robust, defensively sound full-back capable of handling the demands of Scottish football.
Former Rangers coach and current Westerlo manager Issame Charaï recently described Rommens as “the perfect fit” for Ibrox, highlighting his aggression, physicality and willingness to engage in duels – attributes that align closely with what Rohl has been looking for.
Rommens presence on the training pitch also underlines the pace at which Rangers are moving in the market this month. The club already confirmed the signing of Tochi Chukwuani on Sunday, securing the Danish midfielder from Sturm Graz on a three-and-a-half-year deal after a £4 million agreement.
Chukwuani’s arrival has been viewed internally as a major boost to Rangers midfield depth following Connor Barron’s knee injury.
Now, attention has turned to strengthening the wide areas.
Danish international Andreas Skov Olsen is also expected in Glasgow shortly to complete his medical ahead of a proposed loan move from Wolfsburg, with an option to buy.
Talks between Rangers and the Bundesliga club are progressing, and personal terms are understood to have been agreed with a medical scheduled.
Rohl is keen to add more firepower and creativity to his attacking options as Rangers continue their push in the title race, and Skov Olsen’s arrival would represent a significant statement of intent.
With Rommens already training, Chukwuani signed, and Skov Olsen on the way, Rangers January window is beginning to take shape at speed.
Rommens’ early involvement in first-team training suggests Rohl wants him up to speed immediately, both tactically and physically.
While the club have yet to clarify the exact reason for the delay in Rommens official announcement, it is believed to be related to final documentation rather than any issues with the deal itself.
For Rangers supporters, seeing the Belgian already embedded within the squad will come as reassurance that the transfer is effectively done.
With the January window now gathering momentum, Ibrox is bracing itself for further movement – and Rommens looks set to be the next new face formally welcomed through the doors.
