Andreas Skov Olsen says he is already feeling at home at Rangers after being unveiled in front of the Ibrox crowd ahead of Friday night’s 5–0 Scottish Cup win over Annan Athletic.
The Danish international winger was officially announced as Rangers third signing of the January window before kick-off and then addressed the media for the first time as a Rangers player, describing his arrival in Glasgow as a moment he had been eagerly anticipating.
“First of all, hello everybody. I feel very good, thank you,” Skov Olsen said to the media post-match.
“It was lovely to come here to Ibrox and meet the team, meet the fans and the people around.
“So a lovely night, a good win for the team. So yeah, I'm happy.”
The 26-year-old arrives with a strong reputation, having featured regularly in the Bundesliga and on the European stage for Wolfsburg.
When asked what attracted him to Scottish football, Skov Olsen made it clear that Rangers stature played a decisive role.
“The biggest club here in Scotland,” he said.
“When I heard the interest from Rangers, I just really wanted to go and I'm super happy that it finally is done and I'm here. So yeah, very happy.”
Once tipped to reach the very top of the game during his time in Denmark, Skov Olsen believes he still has plenty of development ahead of him.
“Definitely, yeah. I believe I have much more to give and to develop more and become a better player every day,” he explained.
The winger also revealed he sought advice from Rangers legend Brian Laudrup before completing his move to Ibrox.
“He first of all told me about his time here, about the club, the city, the people and the time he had, how great it was,” Skov Olsen said.
“He gave me some advice for the club and the city. So that was basically it and then just a normal conversation about life.”
Asked what kind of player Rangers supporters can expect to see, Skov Olsen highlighted his attacking instincts and creativity.
“I am an offensive player, mostly on the wing,” he said.
“I would describe myself as a creative player. I like to set my mates up, do assists, shoot on goal, come inside, come outside, go to the back line, put some crosses. So yeah, hopefully I can contribute with the goals and assists.”
Skov Olsen also spoke positively about his conversations with the manager, who he believes will help him reach his best level.
“As he also mentioned, I can contribute with what I'm good at and I have to do that,” he said.
“I have to go in and show the things I've shown already. That's what I have to help the team with, to score goals and help my mates score goals.”
With Rangers locked in a tight title race with Old Firm rivals Celtic and Scottish Premiership league leaders Hearts, the Dane admitted the pressure of playing for the club is something he is embracing rather than fearing.
“Of course, but it's not nice to play football if there's no pressure,” he said.
“That's also what comes with playing for Rangers, the huge pressure there is. It's just lovely and I can't wait to feel it and to hopefully perform under it.”
Looking ahead to the remainder of the season, Skov Olsen made his ambitions clear.
“I would love to win trophies,” he said.
“But I know it's one game at a time.
“We have to focus on one game and then hopefully see where it ends in the end of the season. But we're going for it, for sure.”
And with an option to extend his stay beyond the summer, the winger believes Rangers long-term vision convinced him to commit to the move.
“It's to be the best team every year in Scotland and I want to be a part of that,” Skov Olsen said.
“So, yeah, that's why I really wanted to come here, to be a part of that.”
