Rangers have confirmed the signing of Danish winger Andreas Skov Olsen on loan from Wolfsburg until the end of the season, with the deal reported to include a £9 million option to buy in the summer.
The 26-year-old was unveiled to the Ibrox crowd just minutes before Rangers emphatic 5–0 Scottish Cup victory over Annan Athletic, alongside fellow January arrivals Tochi Chukwuani and Tuur Rommens.
While Skov Olsen was not included in the matchday squad, nor Rangers UEFA Europa League squad for Thursday’s clash with Ludogorets, he could make his debut against Dundee at Ibrox on Sunday.
Speaking to Rangers TV after completing his move, Skov Olsen could not hide his excitement.
“Yeah, I'm very excited, I'm very happy finally it's done,” he said.
“I'm so excited, I can't wait to meet all the guys and the fans and the rest of the club and coming to Ibrox tonight to watch the guys, so I'm very excited.”
The winger admitted the club’s stature made the decision an easy one.
“Rangers is the biggest club here in Scotland, huge history, huge traditions, very old club,” he explained.
“When I finally heard that I had the opportunity to come here, I was not in doubt for a second. I just want to come here, try to help to win trophies with the rest of the team and do my best.”
Skov Olsen revealed that the possibility of playing for Rangers had long been in the back of his mind.
“Of course it's a dream to come here really, to play for such a huge club with such a fan base, such a history. It's a dream come true,” he said.
“Honestly, I just can't wait to start and to play and to meet everyone.”
The move gathered pace in recent days, with the Dane holding extensive discussions with the club.
“A couple weeks ago I heard about it,” Skov Olsen explained.
“I had a lot of talks with different people in the club, the coach, previous players, so to get the most information I could get and yeah, now it's done, so happy.”
His conversations with head coach Danny Rohl played a key role.
“It was good, he seems to be a very talented coach, great ideas, great football,” Skov Olsen said.
“I think it's a very good time to come into a team that's doing well at the moment.”
Describing his playing style, the winger made it clear what Rangers fans can expect.
“First of all I'm an offensive player, mostly on the wing. I'm a creative player, I like to set up my mates, hopefully do some goals, assist and create good moments, offensive football.”
Skov Olsen believes his attributes suit the demands of Ibrox.
“For what I can contribute with is something that hopefully the team can use to try to win the trophies this season.”
Before finalising the move, he sought advice from several former Rangers figures – including club legend and fellow Dane Brian Laudrup.
“It was the best time of his life here he said,” Skov Olsen revealed.
“He won so many things here, he had such a great time outside the pitch also, so it was only positive things from his side.”
With familiar faces already in the dressing room, the winger expects to settle quickly.
“It's been a while since I saw the guys the last time so I can't wait to see them,” he said.
“It's going to be nice to have some faces I know in the dressing room and help me settle a bit faster.”
His experience in title races with Club Brugge and Denmark could prove invaluable.
“I have a lot of international experience, Champions League, winning trophies, which is the most important,” Skov Olsen said.
“Hopefully that can give me an advantage.”
As he prepares for his Rangers debut, Skov Olsen is already relishing the atmosphere that awaits him.
“I heard it's a lot of physical, a lot of duel, nice football, crazy good fans,” he smiled.
“I can't wait. I appreciate the love so far and I hope we can have a great time here.”
With Rangers still competing on multiple fronts, the Dane believes the timing is perfect.
“For sure, I think it's a very good time and I really hope that I can help win the trophies.”
