Rangers return to Scotland this weekend to begin the final phase of their preparations for the new season.

With Derek McInnes set to put his squad through three training sessions before supporters get their first public look at his side against Saint-Etienne.

The Light Blues have spent the past week at their warm-weather training camp in Spain, using the trip to build fitness and further implement McInnes' ideas ahead of the Scottish Premiership campaign.

Rangers training this week

Attention now turns to a busy week at the Rangers Training Centre, where the squad will train on Sunday, Monday and a MD-1 session on Tuesday before welcoming the French side to Ibrox on Wednesday evening.

It will be the first opportunity for supporters to assess McInnes' new-look team in person after a summer of significant change, with several new signings expected to feature as the head coach continues to shape his preferred starting XI.

The week could also include another addition to the squad.

Rangers are expected to complete the £4million signing of Serbian midfielder Vanja Dragojevic after the Partizan Belgrade captain travelled to Glasgow to finalise the move.

An official announcement is anticipated early next week, potentially allowing the 20-year-old to be introduced before Wednesday's friendly and even make his first appearance in front of the Ibrox crowd.

He will be joined by new signings Dan Neil, Cammy Devlin, Lawrence Shankland, Ross McCrorie and Ben Godfrey in making his Ibrox bow.

Goalkeeper Ivan Pandur could be longer, as Rangers await his return from World Cup action with Croatia.

Whether Dragojevic features or not, the Saint-Etienne clash represents an important step towards the competitive campaign, with places in McInnes' starting line-up still up for grabs.

Championship side head for Ibrox clash

Preparations will not stop there.

Just four days later, recently relegated Premier League outfit West Ham United arrive at Ibrox for Rangers' final pre-season fixture in what promises to be their toughest test before competitive action begins.

The visit of Nuno Espirito Santo’s side will provide one last opportunity for McInnes to assess his squad against top-level opposition before attention turns to the Scottish Premiership.

The league opener: Dundee United vs Rangers

There will be little time to recover after that encounter.

Rangers travel to Tannadice on Friday evening to face Dundee United in their league opener, bringing pre-season to a close and marking the beginning of McInnes' first full campaign in charge.

With training resuming this weekend and two high-profile fixtures to come before the Premiership gets underway, Rangers are entering one of the most important weeks of the summer.

By the time they kick off against Dundee United, McInnes will hope his squad is settled, his tactical ideas are fully embedded, and supporters have had their first glimpse of a team capable of challenging for silverware.
