Fraser Murray's departure from Rangers brings an end to almost nine years at Ibrox and represents another change within a recruitment department that has undergone significant movement over the past year.
Murray most recently worked as the club's Head of Scouting Operations before leaving in June 2026.
However, Rangers still retain a sizeable scouting and recruitment operation across the first team and academy, with several long-serving members remaining in place alongside a number of newer appointments.
Rangers have signed 12 players this summer, with Portland Timbers' Kevin Kelsy expected to be number 13 and the final addition according to comments from Derek McInnes today.
“We're still working hard to get one in at the minute. We're getting closer on that one, but we believe it's only going to be the one in,” McInnes said.
First-team scouting and recruitment
Nathan Fisher remains Rangers' Chief Scout, having taken up the position in October 2025.
He continues to oversee the club's scouting operation alongside Oliver O'Connell, who has joined the first team scouting setup after working at Norwich City.
O'Connell was previously Regional Scouting Lead for France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland at Norwich, while his previous experience also includes KV Oostende and RWDM FC.
Jamie Miller remains Lead Emerging Talent and UK Scout for the Rangers first team, a position he has held since March 2025.
Former St Mirren player Gudmundur Torfason is another long-serving member of the department, having worked as a first-team scout since 2011.
Rangers have also brought in Mick Priest, who was appointed this summer as another first-team scouting addition.
Meanwhile, Robbie Thelwell remains Head of First Team Recruitment. His continued presence is notable given the departure of his father, Kevin Thelwell, from the Rangers structure almost a year ago.
Dan Purdy also remains in his position as Technical Director after being appointed in June 2025 following his move North from Everton.
Academy scouting structure
Rangers continue to have a number of established figures working within their academy recruitment operation.
Cameron Dickson remains Academy Scouting Executive, having joined Rangers in 2021 and moved into his current position in June 2024.
Working within that structure is Stewart Caldwell, who remains an academy scout.
Matthew Kerr is another long-serving member of the academy scouting team, having held his role since October 2015. He previously worked as assistant coach at East Stirlingshire.
David Roseburgh has an even longer association with Rangers' youth scouting operation, having worked as a youth scout since 2006 while Steven Thayne has been an academy scout since 2024.
Rangers also have former youth player Max Ashmore working as a scout and player liaison officer, while former Livingston coach Glenn McFarlane operates as a talent scout.
Changes under the current structure
There have also been notable departures from the recruitment department.
James Fowler left his position as Head of Academy Scouting and Recruitment in May to join Newcastle United.
Mervyn Day also departed after retiring from his role as a first-team scout following nine years with the club.
Those exits, combined with Murray's departure, mean Rangers have lost several experienced figures from their scouting operation.
However, the club has retained a mixture of long-serving scouts and newer appointments as it continues to shape its recruitment structure.
The recruitment team has been criticised by many fans for several season’s of poor recruitment. However, the Ibrox hierarchy are making changes with several other unannounced arrivals to the team rumoured. Whether it leads to success in the future and an upturn in fortunes in Govan remains to be seen.
