The potential Rangers exit of Clinton Nsiala to Cyprus remains one to watch after Omonoia Nicosia indicated they are unlikely to make another move unless the right opportunity presents itself.
Inside Ibrox understands that the Cypriot club have told journalists they are not planning another addition unless it is considered "really special".
That could appear to put an end to speculation surrounding Nsiala, but our sources within Cyprus have stressed that Omonoia's public messaging should not necessarily be interpreted as a definitive rejection of the Rangers defender.
Omonoia are known to rarely confirm or directly addresses transfer rumours unless a deal is already close to completion.
That means the situation remains one to watch as the Cypriot window progresses.
Nsiala had initially been linked with Pafos, but that avenue has already been ruled out after a source close to the club indicated that the Rangers defender was ‘not on their list of options.’
Omonoia subsequently emerged as a potential destination, although the club have so far refused to deny interest in the former AC Milan youth captain.
Omonoia transfer window remains open
There is also more time available for a potential deal than initially appeared.
The Cypriot transfer calendar distinguishes between permanent transfers and loans after the main registration deadline.
The deadline for permanent deals and loans between clubs is September 9, while loan and free-agent opportunities can remain available beyond that date until September 14.
That is significant in Nsiala's case, given a loan would appear to be the more logical route if Rangers are looking to move the defender on, given his lack of game time across the past year.
It means there is no immediate need for Omonoia to make a decision on the 22-year-old French-born Congolese defender, with time still available to assess whether he represents the "really special" opportunity the club says it would consider.
Nsiala future remains unclear
Nsiala has been outside Derek McInnes's first-team plans at Rangers and has been made available for a move this summer.
The defender previously spent time on loan at Westerlo last season with former Ibrox coach Issame Charai, but featured only four times and has been unable to establish himself as a squad option since his return to Ibrox this summer.
Rangers have already reduced the size of their squad during the transfer window, but the Scottish deadline has now passed, meaning any potential exit would have to involve a country whose registration window remains open. Cyprus provides one such route.
The latest information does not amount to confirmation that Omonoia want to sign Nsiala, and it would be premature to describe a move as imminent.
However, with the club's domestic transfer activity still allowing scope for certain loan and free agent deals until September 14, the door has not been completely closed.
