Pafos could offer Clinton Nsiala Rangers escape route after defensive departures

Pafos have a vacancy at centre-back after losing two defenders this summer, potentially opening the door for Clinton Nsiala to secure an exit from Ibrox.

Rangers could have another route out of Ibrox for Clinton Nsiala, with Pafos understood to be a potential destination for the French defender.

The 22-year-old has been linked with an exit after falling out of favour at Rangers, with Rangers Review previously reporting that France or Cyprus could provide possible destinations for the centre-back.

Pafos would now appear to be a particularly logical option. The Cypriot side have lost Derrick Luckassen and Axel Guessand, leaving them with further work to do in the centre-back department.

The side are now looking for a new partner for former Arsenal, Chelsea and PSG defender David Luiz.

Pafos looking at centre-back options

Pafos are understood to be assessing defensive reinforcements after seeing two centre-backs leave during the summer.

Luckassen has moved to Red Star Belgrade, while Guessand has joined Kalamata, creating space for the Cypriot club to bring another defender into the squad.

The club already have considerable experience at the position through Luiz, but Nsiala would offer a considerably younger option.

The former AC Milan academy defender is 22 and has experience of Scottish football with Rangers. However, he has struggled for game time since Phillipe Clement’s departure, being banished from first-team training by Russell Martin and loaned out to Westerlo by Danny Rohl.

Nsiala's Rangers future uncertain

The defender's future remains uncertain as Rangers continue to reshape their squad.

Nsiala is currently listed as a Rangers player, and his contract situation means any permanent departure would require an agreement between the clubs.

With Rangers looking to move on players who are not part of Derek McInnes' plans, another loan or permanent transfer could be considered.

He has not featured in a matchday squad under the former Hearts boss despite an injury to Ben Godfrey.

David Luiz connection

A move to Pafos would also give Nsiala the opportunity to work alongside one of the most recognisable defenders of his generation.

Former Brazil international Luiz remains part of the Pafos squad, having joined the club in 2025.  For a young centre-back, the opportunity to train alongside a player with Luiz's experience could be an attractive aspect of a potential move.

Pafos have also demonstrated their ambition on the European stage, making the club an increasingly prominent destination for experienced and developing players.

Any move would potentially solve a squad issue while giving Nsiala the opportunity to rebuild his career elsewhere.

The defender remains relatively young and has already experienced football in several different environments, but regular first-team football has been difficult to secure at Ibrox.
