Rangers latest, and third, January signing appears to be on the brink of official confirmation, with Andreas Skov Olsen having completed his medical and now present at the Rangers Training Centre ahead of a formal unveiling.
The Danish international winger arrived in Glasgow yesterday evening after Rangers reached an agreement with Wolfsburg over a loan move until the end of the season – with the player himself turning down offers from across Europe to head to Scotland.
Since then, the 26-year-old has undergone his medical checks and has been spotted at the club’s training base, where promotional content is currently being prepared.
Sources within the training ground have indicated that Skov Olsen has already started to take part in the club’s usual media duties for new signings, such as official photographs and content for Rangers social channels.
While an announcement could come as early as this evening, there is also the possibility that the club will wait until tomorrow to confirm the signing, timing it around Rangers Scottish Cup fourth-round clash with Annan Athletic at Ibrox – similar to the way Tochi Chukwuani’s announcement was timed around the 2-0 win at Pittodrie on Sunday.
Danny Rohl has been pushing hard for attacking reinforcements this month, and Skov Olsen has long been identified as the priority target to strengthen Rangers wide options.
The Dane’s arrival would add experience, pace, and goal threat to a Rangers squad that has at times lacked consistency in the final third this season.
Skov Olsen brings an impressive pedigree with him to Glasgow. He has featured regularly in the Bundesliga and European competition, while also earning caps for Denmark at senior level.
His ability to operate on either flank, cut inside onto his stronger left foot, and contribute goals makes him a natural fit for Rohl’s system.
With Oscar Cortes having departed Ibrox on loan in the Summe to Sporting Gijon, and again this month after being recalled and heading to Huracan in Argentina, the number 7 shirt has become available – and Skov Olsen is expected to take it once his move is officially announced.
While the deal is structured as a loan, Rangers are believed to have secured an option to make the move permanent in the summer.
The winger’s presence at the training centre has already sparked excitement among supporters, with many seeing his signing as a clear statement of intent from the Ibrox hierarchy.
After a turbulent start to the campaign, a less-than-stellar Summer window and managerial changes earlier in the season, Rangers are now accelerating their recruitment plans as they push for silverware in the second half of the footballing calendar.
Skov Olsen is unlikely to be thrown straight into competitive action, with a start in the Scottish Cup tie against Annan coming so soon. However, a place on the bench could provide Rohl with an ideal chance to introduce the new man.
His arrival follows the recent confirmation of Tuur Rommens and Chukwuani, the latter of whom will almost certainly feature tomorrow, highlighting the pace at which Rangers are now moving in the market.
The focus has shifted firmly toward adding quality that can make an immediate difference rather than simply planning for the future.
For Skov Olsen, the move represents a fresh challenge and an opportunity to play a central role in a title push in front of passionate support at Ibrox.
With the medical completed, media duties underway, and the number 7 shirt waiting, all that remains is the official announcement.
