Rangers are reportedly preparing to turn their verbal offer for Vaclav Cerny into a formal bid as they step up their efforts to bring the Czech winger back to Ibrox.
According to Turkish journalist Ertan Suzgun, the Scottish club is keen to complete a deal for the Besiktas attacker and is now preparing to make an official proposal.
Suzgun reports that Rangers are experiencing “hectic hours” as they attempt to convince both Besiktas and Cerny's representatives over a potential transfer.
The report states: “Glasgow Rangers [are] about to turn [their] verbal offer for Vaclav Cerny into an official bid! Glasgow wants to seal the Cerny transfer! The Scottish club is experiencing hectic hours in [their] efforts to convince both Besiktas and the player's side.”
A return to Ibrox for Cerny
Cerny is a familiar name to Rangers supporters after his personally successful loan spell at Ibrox during the 2024/25 campaign, despite the team’s failings that season under Phillipe Clement and latterly Barry Ferguson.
The Czech international enjoyed an impressive season in Glasgow, contributing goals and assists before returning to his parent club Wolfsburg.
He subsequently moved to Besiktas, where Rangers' interest has now resurfaced.
Rangers are understood to be keen on adding further attacking quality to Derek McInnes' squad, with Cerny's versatility and previous experience of Scottish football making him an attractive option to add to the already secured Daisuke Yokota and Kim Min-Su.
The latest report
The latest report suggests the club's interest has progressed beyond simply monitoring the situation, with Rangers now looking to put their verbal proposal onto an official footing.
However, there remains work to be done. Suzgun's report indicates Rangers are attempting to convince both Besiktas and the player, suggesting an agreement has not yet been reached with either party. Inside Ibrox understands that Rangers early European exit is seen as a stumbling block for Cerny, as is his €60k per week salary in Istanbul.
The size of the potential bid has not been disclosed but Rangers are seemingly looking for another loan for the winger with an option-to-buy.
Cerny's potential return would represent a significant move for Rangers given his previous impact at Ibrox, where he quickly became an important attacking player during his loan spell.
Rangers are now attempting to make that relationship permanent, with an official bid potentially set to arrive in the coming hours.
The transfer window closes on September 3, leaving McInnes and Rangers limited time to complete any late additions.
