Václav Černy was born on 17th October 1997 in Příbram, Czech Republic. He played his early football at FK Příbram before joining the youth setup at Ajax Amsterdam in 2013.

Two years later, he made his professional debut for Jong Ajax on 13th March, 2015 and went on to score 31 goals for them across 69 appearances at the U17, U19, and U21 levels.

Rangers FC announced the signing of Černy from VfL Wolfsburg for a season-long loan on 26th July 2024 through their official website, making him the eighth addition to Philippe Clement’s squad over the summer transfer window.

Speaking after he joined the Light Blues, Černy said:

“It is a very nice day for me. I am happy to be here and I can’t wait to get started.

“Obviously from the first talks with the manager, it gave me a very good feeling and from there on I would say it went pretty fast. I was happy about the contact and just couldn’t wait to come down here and be here and experience it all.”

In July 2019, Černy joined fellow Eredivisie side FC Utrecht on a three-year contract. He spent the 2020-21 season on loan at FC Twente before joining the club permanently on 2nd July, 2021.

Manager Philippe Clement welcomed Černy to the club, saying:

“I am delighted to welcome Václav to the squad, he is an exciting player, with valuable experience in European football.

“He has already shown his attacking qualities during his time in the Eredivisie and at Wolfsburg and he will further strengthen our attacking options in the squad. I feel as a club and staff we can continue to help him as a player to reach new levels and I am excited to see what the season holds for him at Rangers.”

In the summer of 2023, Černy was on the move again, this time to Germany, where he signed for VfL Wolfsburg on a four-year contract. He scored five goals for them across 25 appearances in all competitions during his first season.

Director of Recruitment Nils Koppen commented on his signing:

“Firstly, I would like to welcome Václav to Rangers, and I am looking forward to seeing him as part of the squad.

“We have been working hard to bring in talented players with potential and Václav is a winger who has proven contributions in top leagues in Europe. It is fantastic to have him join the squad here.”

He was named Czech Talent of the Year in 2015, and won the Eredivisie title and KNVB Cup double with Ajax in 2018-19.
