Rangers have been dealt another blow in their pursuit of Amario Cozier-Duberry, with the Brighton winger agreeing a new contract at the Premier League club and preparing to head out on loan to the Championship.
The 21-year-old's future has been the subject of considerable interest throughout the summer, with Rangers among the clubs to make an approach for the former Arsenal youngster.
However, Brighton stood firm over their valuation of Cozier-Duberry and rejected multiple offers from Rangers.
The Athletic reports that Rangers saw bids of £6million and £7.5million turned down by Brighton, who were also unwilling to accept a £5million offer from Anderlecht.
Cozier-Duberry has now committed his future to Brighton by agreeing fresh terms, although he is expected to spend the coming season away from the Amex on loan.
The winger spent last season with Bolton Wanderers, playing a key role in their promotion campaign through the League One play-offs.
He finished the campaign with nine goals and 13 assists in 37 appearances, further enhancing his reputation as one of Brighton's promising young attacking players.
Rangers' interest was therefore understandable as Derek McInnes looked to strengthen his attacking options.
However, Brighton's valuation has ultimately proved too high for the Ibrox club, with the English side holding out for considerably more than Rangers were prepared to pay.
The development represents a significant setback for Rangers with the Scottish transfer deadline approaching, particularly given the club's need to make the most of the remaining time in the window.
Cerny deal also looking unlikely
Rangers are also facing difficulties in their pursuit of Vaclav Cerny.
The Czech winger's potential return to Ibrox has been complicated by a sizeable gap between Rangers and Besiktas over his valuation, while wage demands are also understood to be proving an obstacle.
Cerny remains unlikely to return to Rangers unless there is a late breakthrough in negotiations.
Rangers are set to confirm Kevin Kelsy’s arrival imminently, but a further wide option looks increasingly unlikely as we move towards the deadline.
