Italian reports linking Rangers with Fares Ghedjemis have taken on a new dimension after Celtic reportedly renewed their interest in the winger.
According to the The Herald’s Stephen McGowan, the Scottish champions have revived their pursuit of the 23-year-old, who has also been credited with attracting attention from Ibrox this week.
He has been mentioned as a potential target within Ibrox recruitment meetings but is not being activley pursued by Rangers at the moment as they look at other targets.
Ghedjemis has impressed with his performances in Italy and has emerged as one of the more intriguing wide players available this summer, with reports suggesting he carries a valuation of around £8 million.
Rangers linked with Celtic-tracked winger
Rangers were previously named among the clubs monitoring the Algerian, although Inside Ibrox understands that interest has since cooled as Derek McInnes focuses on other areas of his squad.
The Rangers boss has already strengthened significantly during the current transfer window, with the arrivals of Lawrence Shankland, Cammy Devlin and Olwethu Makhanya among the additions made ahead of the new Scottish Premiership campaign.
Rangers are currently prioritising other wide options such as Brighton's Amiro Cozier-Duberry and Coventry City's Jahnoah Markelo at present.
Clear route to Celtic Park
That leaves the path clearer for Celtic, who are now reported to have reignited their interest after previously tracking Ghedjemis during the January window earlier this year.
Whether the Parkhead club follows up that interest with a formal offer remains to be seen, but the latest development represents a notable twist given Rangers' earlier links with the player.
An £8 million transfer would also represent a significant financial commitment, highlighting the level of belief surrounding the winger's potential.
As things stand, Ghedjemis is not considered an active target, but a name on a list of options at Ibrox, although transfer windows can evolve quickly if departures create space for further recruitment.
However, with Celtic closing in, the Gers could be forced to make a decision sooner then anticipated.
The Gers are still actively targeting wide options, with only Djeidi Gassama and Findlay Curtis available as wide options ahead of tonight's Premiership opener away to Dundee United after Oliver Antman’s departure to Anderlecht this week.
At present. attention appears to have switched elsewhere to other wide targets, potentially leaving Celtic with a clearer route should they decide to press ahead with their interest.
