The former Rangers boss has reportedly revived his interest in the Tromso midfielder after taking charge of RB Salzburg, with Hull City also emerging as potential rivals for the Norwegian's signature.

Danny Rohl could be set to frustrate Rangers in the race to sign Jens Hjerto-Dahl after fresh reports claimed his RB Salzburg side have joined Hull City in pursuing the Tromso midfielder.

Hjerto-Dahl has been heavily linked with a move to Ibrox throughout the summer, with reports suggesting he has held off on joining Cardiff City as he waits to discover whether Rangers will formalise their interest.

However, the Scottish Premiership club now face growing competition, with Rohl reigniting his interest in a player he was previously linked with during his time in the Rangers hot seat.

Rohl revives long-standing interest

The German is no stranger to links with the Norwegian.

While still Rangers head coach earlier this year, reports linked the German with a move for the Tromso wonderkid as he looked to reshape the Ibrox squad.

No transfer materialised before Rohl departed for RB Salzburg early this summer, but the Austrian giants are now reported to have revived their interest following his arrival.

If the latest reports prove accurate, Rohl could find himself competing with Rangers for the player’s signature, this time from an Austrian dugout.

Rangers handed fresh transfer concern

Reports continue to suggest Rangers remain keen on Hjerto-Dahl as Derek McInnes targets further additions before the transfer window closes. However, with a bloated midfield and no sign of immediate outgoings, McInnes is prioritising other positions.

Salzburg are not the only club now credited with an interest.

Fresh reports also claim newly promoted Premier League side Hull City are monitoring Hjerto-Dahl as they assess midfield reinforcements ahead of their return to the top flight.

Hull are also reported to be keeping tabs on Rangers midfielder Nico Raskin, who looks set to depart Scotland after an excellent World Cup campaign with Belgium.

Raskin, who joined Rangers in January 2023, has less than two years remaining on his Ibrox deal.

With Cardiff City still in the background and both Hull City and RB Salzburg now reportedly in the frame, Rangers may have to move quickly if they are to secure the signature of one of their reported midfield targets.

The coming weeks could determine whether Hjerto-Dahl ends up at Ibrox or whether Rohl succeeds in taking a player long admired during his Rangers tenure to Salzburg instead.
