No Rangers bid for Jens Hjertø-Dahl despite ‘one step away’ claims

Italian reporter Marco Conterio suggests a deal is close, but sources indicate Rangers F.C. have not submitted an offer and are unwilling to meet Tromsø IL’s valuation.

Italian journalist Marco Conterio has cast Jens Hjertø-Dahl as a player on the brink of a move to Ibrox, but the picture around the Tromsø midfielder is more complicated than early claims suggest.

Conterio wrote on X that the Norwegian is “one step away from joining Glasgow Rangers,” adding that after “back-and-forth and Beşiktaş’ hesitation, the Scots are ready to settle with a €1m net salary for the player, with his signature expected soon.”

He followed up with another post stating: “Next season. Deal done between clubs, agreement almost reached with player.”

However, that framing remains unconfirmed at club level.

As reported by The Rangers Review, no bid had been submitted while interest remains in a summer move. Information emerging from Tromsø suggests Rangers are currently not prepared to meet the asking price, believed to be north of €5.5 million. That valuation gap leaves the situation open rather than done.

What is clear is why Hjertø-Dahl appeals. At 6ft 4, he fits squarely within the physical and athletic parameters that have shaped recruitment under Danny Rohl.

Height, strength and repeated high-intensity capacity have been consistent themes; the Tromsø midfielder profiles as another data-aligned addition rather than a stylistic outlier.

Despite his age, his exposure level is significant. He has been a regular in Tromsø’s midfield since 17, making his senior debut in May 2023 against HamKam.

European minutes have followed, including four UEFA Conference League appearances and direct experience of Scottish opposition when Tromsø faced Kilmarnock F.C. in August 2024.

Internationally, he has seven caps for Norway U21, reinforcing his developmental trajectory. Hjertø-Dahl has cited Paul Pogba, Sergio Busquets and Ivan Rakitić as stylistic influences in a blend reflected in his output: progressive carries, defensive actions, aerial duel involvement, dribbling and recovery work, coupled with attacking-phase touches in advanced zones.

Leadership potential has long been noted. In 2023, Norway U18 coach Luís Pimenta described him as a “future leader,” pointing to his physique and composure.

His upward curve was later recognised by the CIES Football Observatory, which placed him among the 100 best U20 players globally in September 2024 based on experience data. He has also collected Eliteserien Young Player of the Month awards in July and November 2025.

Tromsø, for their part, have acknowledged market interest. Director Kaemer-Andressen told Norwegian outlet AID: “It is very positive that there is great interest in our players and that they are valued as highly as they are. I believe there will be at least one sale this winter.”

Rangers Scandinavian links have been strengthened by the presence of Stig Inge Bjørnebye as interim football consultant, but for now the deal is not active.
