Rangers begin their quest to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 2022 next week.

The Glasgow giants face Greek side Panathinaikos at Ibrox in the first leg of the second qualifying round tie on Tuesday July 22 in what will be head coach Russell Martin’s first competitive match in charge of the team.

Rangers have been busy in the transfer market so far this summer with permanent acquisitions of Oscar Cortes (Lens), Lyall Cameron (Dundee), Joe Rothwell (Bournemouth), Emmanuel Fernandez (Peterborough United), Thelo Aasgaard (Luton Town) and Djeidi Gassama (Sheffield Wednesday).

Loan signings have been made in the form of Max Aarons and Nasser Djiga from Bournemouth and Wolverhampton Wanderers too boost the starting XI.

Outgoings have been heavy too with the club letting Tom Lawrence, Ianis Hagi, Adam Devine, Cole McKinnon, and Archie Stevens go, while Leon Balogun has joined Connor Goldson in Cyprus with Aris Limassol.

More movement is expected with a large number of signings and departures still in the works at the club.

Today was the deadline for the UEFA Champions League squad submission and Rangers have released their final picks.

The squad is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Jack Butland, Liam Kelly, Kieran Wright

Defenders: Max Aarons, Nasser Djiga, Emmanuel Fernandez, Leon King, John Souttar, James Tavernier, Jefte

Midfielders: Thelo Aasgaard, Nedim Bajrami, Connor Barron, Lyall Cameron, Oscar Cortes, Mohamed Diomande, Kieran Dowell, Robbie Fraser, Djiedi Gassama, Nico Raskin, Joe Rothwell

Forwards: Cyriel Dessers, Josh Gentles, Hamza Igamane, Danilo

The likes of Findlay Curtis, Bailey Rice, Paul Nsio and Mason Munn will be included on the clubs B list, which allows for younger players to play whilst remaining unregistered.

So, who is missing?

First team absentees are Ben Davies, Jose Cifuentes, Ross McCausland and Clinton Nsiala, all of whom have been told they can depart the club.

Robin Propper is also missing ahead of his return to FC Twente, with Rangers having accepted a bid from his former club.

Also absent are the injured trio of Dujon Sterling, Rabbi Matondo and Ridvan Yilmaz. Sterling remains part of the former Southampton bosses plans while Matondo and Yilmaz have both also been told they can find new clubs once they return to fitness.

Leon King is included in the squad to make up the home-grown club trained quota but is also being allowed to move on to pastures new this window.

Kieran Dowell also makes the squad and could be set for a previously unthinkable Ibrox comeback having featured heavily during pre-season.

The club can make two changes between now and the match itself should any more players arrive or depart.
