Rangers look set to sign to lose a second striker of the week, with Nigerian forward Cyriel Dessers looking increasingly likely to depart Ibrox before the transfer deadline early next week.

Hamza Igamane will depart Ibrox for French Ligue 1 side Lille tomorrow for a fee of around £10.4m, after they triggered his release clause following his fallout with head coach Russell Martin.

The Moroccan refused to come on during Rangers 1-1 draw with St Mirren in Paisley with attitude issues rumoured all summer.

Dessers meanwhile has received praise from Martin for his professionalism all summer despite numerous links away from Scotland, the striker has featured regularly until picking up an injury away to Viktoria Plzen.

Turkish side Trabzonspor have reportedly made a £4.5m bid for the Super Eagles forward, offering him a 3-year-deal to move to Türkiye.

The deal would see him depart Ibrox ahead of Sunday’s first Old Firm clash of the season, with the Gers needing a win to claw back the already six point gap between themselves and Celtic after opening their William Hill Premiership campaign with three successive draws with Motherwell, Dundee and the Buddies.

The bid has not yet been accepted by Rangers, with Verona set to up the offer to £5m+, with Dessers former clubs Cremonese and Feyenoord also considering moves to bring the front man back to their respective clubs. AEK Athens remain keen on Dessers but are struggling to come up with the funds to match the other offers and would prefer a loan deal with an option or obligation to buy.

In terms of replacements, this would leave Rangers with only Danilo and young Josh Gentles as forward options, with the teenager looking set for a loan out of Ibrox before the deadline.

Danilo has been inconsistent, with midfielder Thelo Aasgaard preferred up top for last weekend’s trip to the SMiSA Stadium.

Bojan Miovski will complete a £2.6m move to Ibrox tomorrow, with the former Aberdeen striker agreeing a 4-year-deal to move from Spanish La Liga side Girona.

Rangers remain in the market for at least one more front option, with this expanding to two should Dessers depart this week.

With the likes of James Tavernier, Nico Raskin, Oscar Cortes and Nedim Bajrami all rumoured to be heading for Ibrox exits too, the club are in precarious position and in danger of a real regression in overall quality.

Reinforcements are needed, and not just in quantity but in real starting quality. It is time for our new owners to show their worth, and spend the money required to turn this around and get us back challenging for honours after a horrendous start to life under Martin, culminating in Wednesday night’s 6-0 horror show away to Club Brugge.
