Rangers look set to confirm the signing of former Aberdeen hero Bojan Miovski from Spanish La Liga side Girona this week ahead of Sunday’s first Old Firm match of the season against Celtic.

The striker looks set to join Rangers on an initial season long loan deal from the Catalonian side, with an option or obligation to buy believed to be included in the deal.

The North Macedonian international would prefer a deal which sees him permanently head to Ibrox, where he will replace the outgoing Hamza Igamane, who has agreed a deal to join French Ligue 1 side Lille.

The Spaniard’s already look set to secure Miovski’s replacement, almost confirming his move to Ibrox, and they look set to replace him with a former Rangers forward.

Umar Sadiq spent the first half of the 2018/19 season at Ibrox, having been signed on a loan deal by Steven Gerrard during the former gaffer’s first transfer window to compete with both Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty up top.

However, his spell in Scotland was a disaster, playing just four times for Rangers, once in the league before having his loan spell cut short in December.

He was publicly criticised by Gerrard during his time in Glasgow, but the former Liverpool midfielder was forced to feature the Nigerian in the 2018 League Cup semi final against Aberdeen at Hampden.

With Morelos suspended and Lafferty cup tied, the gangly forward was thrown in from the cold to start. It was a disaster, Rangers lost 1-0 to a Lewis Ferguson header, with Sadiq passing up the team’s biggest opportunity.

The striker was one-on-one with Dons keeper Joe Lewis, rounding the stopper before infamously diving for a penalty rather than tapping home into the empty net.

He would never play again but would never be forgotten at Ibrox, for all the wrong reasons.

He would go on to make a decent career for himself however, with good goal returns for Partizan Belgrade and Almeria.

Now with Real Sociedad in Spain, he looks set to replace Miovski at Girona, in a deal all will hope will go better than his move to Ibrox seven years ago.
