New Rangers Head Coach Russell Martin spoke today at his Ibrox Stadium media unveiling about his expectations for his new side during his debut season in the Ibrox dugout.

Martin spoke of the need to improve on last season’s disastrous campaign and put far much more pressure on the top of the table by earning more points.

He said: “I think we're confident we can have a team that is better, gets more points, wins more games and competes, really competes to win trophies.”

He refused to be drawn into a specific expectation on whether his side could be league champions, saying that it was still too early a stage and lots of work on recruitment and on the training pitch still needed to be completed.

He said “We need training time once we've added to the squad, and we see what shape we're in but I think we can improve in all areas I really believe that, and I think we can be better, and I think time will tell.

“We have our own expectation of what we want in terms of the squad and how it's going to look and how we're going to train and how we're going to perform and after that the rest will take care of itself.

“I'm not going to make any promises because I don't think it helps anyone but the promise I will give is we are going to be all in to make this club and the team better and amidst a fresh start with fresh energy and new energy and I think it's a really exciting time.”
