Rangers name has surfaced in Spanish reports surrounding Barcelona academy winger Dani Rodriguez, but the situation is not currently viewed as a live transfer pursuit from the Ibrox side at the current moment.
Mundo Deportivo had linked the 20-year-old with a potential loan move as he considers his next development step away from Barça’s B side, where he has impressed this season.
The wide player is regarded as one of the more promising attacking prospects in Barcelona’s system and has drawn attention from clubs across Europe, with Dinamo Zagreb previously credited with interest.
Rangers have already addressed that area of the squad with the addition of Andreas Skov Olsen, a move seen internally as a significant attacking reinforcement.
While youngster Findlay Curtis is expected to depart on loan to Neil McCann’s Kilmarnock, that outgoing does not materially change the club’s plans in the wide areas – particularly as outcast Rabbi Matondo looks set to remain at the club on his hefty Ibrox wage for the final six-months of his deal.
Instead, if further attacking business is conducted before the deadline, it is more likely to be focused centrally.
Rangers have been linked with Leeds United striker Joel Piroe and Hibernian forward Kieron Bowie, having asked to remain notified on any developments involving the Scotland international this window, as they explore the possibility of adding a different profile through the middle of the pitch.
There had been a perceived relationship angle that could have fuelled speculation, with head coach Rohl having previously worked alongside Hansi Flick during their time at Bayern Munich and with the German national team. While that connection exists, it has not translated into negotiations over Rodriguez at the present moment.
Squad structure also provides context. Rangers currently have two loan slots available, with 19-year-old Jayden Meghoma and 18-year-old Mikey Moore not counting toward the six-player limit under FIFA regulations covering under-21 players.
That offers flexibility, but it does not automatically signal intent to add in every attacking area.
From Rodriguez’s perspective, a loan away from Barcelona may still materialise, given the congestion in first team attacking positions at Camp Nou. For Rangers, though, this appears to be a name circulating in wider scouting conversations rather than an active target.
As things stand, the Barcelona winger is not viewed as a deal in motion, with Rangers recruitment focus lying elsewhere as the window enters its closing phase.
That said, transfer windows are fluid by nature, and circumstances can shift quickly. Should Rangers attacking plans change - whether through an unexpected departure or a late market opportunity - a short-term loan for the winger could yet come into consideration.
It is also worth noting the source of the report. Mundo Deportivo is widely regarded as a publication with strong access to Barcelona and often reflects the Catalan club’s perspective when transfer stories surface.
As a result, such reports can sometimes signal that movement is being explored from the player or parent club side, even if the buying club has not yet engaged formally.
That does not necessarily mean a deal is advanced from a Rangers standpoint, but it leaves open the possibility that Rodriguez’s representatives or Barcelona could be assessing potential destinations in the background as part of broader plan.
For now, though, Rodriguez is not regarded as an active Rangers target, with the club’s focus directed elsewhere as the window moves toward its conclusion.
