Ben Davies looks set to move on from Ibrox with Queens Park Rangers and Oxford United both pushing to sign the central defender.
The 30-year-old is not part of Russell Martin’s long-term plans as the Rangers boss continues to reshape his squad, and a permanent exit now looks inevitable.
Davies spent last season on loan at Birmingham City, where he was a key figure in their promotion campaign, starting 40 matches in a record-breaking EFL League One season.
Birmingham had been keen to keep him permanently, but talks broke down earlier in the summer despite reports Rangers accepted a bid of around £750k
That has opened the door for several Championship clubs, with QPR and newly promoted Oxford United to attempt so sign the former Liverpool defender.
QPR, who recently signed Rangers target Kwame Poku, are looking to add experience to their back line.
Oxford, meanwhile, are desperate to bolster Gary Rowett’s squad as they prepare for a tough season in the Championship after narrowly surviving the drop last term.
For Rangers, Davies’ departure would free up wages and allow Martin to reinvest as he continues to shape his side.

The left-back transfer call that could define Russell Martin’s first Rangers season
Davies joined Rangers in 2022 from the Reds under Giovanni Van Bronckhorst but has never settled at Ibrox.
An injury hit debut campaign was followed by two seasons of indifferent form, where the defender repeatedly struggled with the physicality of the Scottish game.
Davies made 58 appearances for Rangers, netting once against Real Betis in the UEFA Europa League.
While composed on the ball and able to play out from the back which would suit Martin’s possession-based style, the former Preston North End man has been frozen out of the Ibrox first team alongside Jose Cifuentes, Clinton Nsiala and Leon King.
Davies is one of the highest earners in Govan and his exit would free up wages for Martin to recruit a new starting, left-sided central defender after a move for Nobel Mendy broke down earlier this week.
