Rangers interest in Reims forward Oumar Diakite has cooled due to a number of factors but the Ivorian remains on a shortlist.

Russell Martin has already added former Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovski to his squad and the North Macedonian international made his debut in yesterday’s OId Firm stalemate with Celtic at Ibrox.

Out-of-favour Everton attacker Youssef Chermiti has passed his Gers medical and will be announced before tonight’s transfer deadline at midnight, the Portuguese striker is a controversial signing, with big money spent on a hit man who has not scored a first team goal in over two years.

They are both replacements for the departed Hamza Igamane, who has joined French Ligue 1 side Lille, and outgoing Cyriel Dessers, who is set to join Rangers former UEFA Champions League second qualifying round opponents Panathinaikos in a deal worth up to £5m.

Danilo remains as the only striking option held over from last campaign, but Rangers are open to letting the Brazilian striker depart. However, the only interest in the former Feyenoord striker is from the Netherlands and his homeland, and only on loan due to his recent injury record.

Rangers would require Danilo to depart permanently before giving the go-ahead to recruit a replacement. Diakite would cost around £8.5m, a large outlay considering the club are already committing similar funds to Chermiti and look to spend big on Crystal Palace wide man Jesurun Rak-Sakyi amid Celtic interest.

6 foot tall, strong and quick, at just 21-years old Diakite would fit the mould of a 49ers backed Rangers transfer target, but with funds stretched it may be unattainable this window.

Should the Samba striker unexpectedly depart the deal may reignite but for now it has been consigned to a shortlist document.
