New Rangers head coach Danny Rohl has continued to add to his coaching staff behind the scenes. We exclusively revealed on Inside Ibrox yesterday that former Sheffield Wednesday performance manager Sascha Lense would join up with German compatriot Rohl at Ibrox.

Lense is a former sports psychologist who worked at Manchester United under Ralf Rangnick as well as having stints at at Dynamo Dresden, Schalke and RB Leipzig, where he first worked with the new boss. He is also the father-in-law of German international Timo Werner, who is married to his daughter Paula.

We can now expand on this team and confirm that his assistant is former Ajax number two Matthias Kaltenbach.

Kaltenbach, 40, was assistant to Alfred Schreuder in Amsterdam from 2022 until 2023 and has also worked at SF Elzach-Yach and Hoffenheim during his coaching career, where he held various roles such as Under 19’s head coach and assistant head coach for the Bundesliga club.

Both will travel to Norway for tomorrow's UEFA Europa League match with SK Brann.

He joins both Lense, and goalkeeping coach Sal Bibbo as part of Rohl’s new look coaching setup at the Rangers Training Centre, becoming the first member of the team to not link up with Rohl from his time at Hillsborough.

More additions are expected to be confirmed shortly, during his first press conference yesterday Rohl spoke about his backroom team and what we could expect from the appointments.

He said: “I will bring two guys with me from Germany. One guy is an assistant coach off the pitch and the other guy will be the assistant coach on the pitch.

“This is very important and I made great experience in Sheffield Wednesday with Chris Powell, I try to bring a former Rangers player with a good background here as well because for me it’s important to take this advantage form a guy who knows Rangers, who knows the league, why should I not use this? This would be a perfect set up for me.

“My goalkeeper coach [Bibbo] arrived in the summer. This is also good to take him again.”

With Lense being the off pitch, and Kaltenbach the on pitch coach, the only remaining addition as of yet unknown is the former Gers player who will join up to add knowledge of the club and the Scottish leagues.

Rumours persist on who this could be, with former Rangers captains Lee Wallace and Steven Davis, who took interim charge in 2023 after the sacking of Michael Beale, both linked but nothing has been confirmed at this stage.
