New Rangers head coach Danny Rohl was presented to the media today at Ibrox and spoke publicly for the first time since being appointed to the club after taking his first training session today following his announcement yesterday.
He will travel to Norway and take the club for their UEFA Europa League match away to SK Brann on Thursday in what will be his first match in charge of the club before returning to Scotland for his Scottish Premiership bow on Sunday against Kilmarnock, giving the Ibrox crowd a first glimpse of his style and plan of action to turn a faltering season around.
In terms of coaching staff there has been no official announcement as of yet but Inside Ibrox can exclusively reveal that his German countryman Sascha Lense will be the first member to join Rohl at Rangers and will also travel to Bergen with the team.
Usually a performance coach, Lense worked as a sports psychologist under Ralf Rangnick at Manchester United before joining Rohl at Sheffield Wednesday as performance manager in October 2023, departing with the new boss this summer.
He also had spells at Dynamo Dresden, Schalke and with Rohl at RB Leipzig in similar roles. He is also the father-in-law of Germany international and Leipzig forward Timo Werner, who is married to Lense's daughter Paula.
Further members of the coaching staff will be announced shortly but sources within Ibrox inform us that their cases and equipment are packed to go. Goalkeeping coach Sal Bibbo, who joined alongside now axed head coach Russell Martin in the summer will stay with the club, he also worked alongside Rohl and Lense at Sheffield Wednesday and will remain at Rangers moving forward after being credited with his part in Jack Butland’s remarkable return to form.
Former Rangers captain Lee Wallace has been linked with a position at Ibrox but this is as of yet unconfirmed.
Rangers will take on Brann tomorrow at the Brann Stadion in what is a crucial early match for the new coaching setup.
Rangers have lost both their opening two league phase matches to Genk at Ibrox and Sturm Graz in Austria under Martin and their hopes of progression already hang in the balance at only matchday three.
Expect an announcement on full coaching setup from the club later today.
