Clinton Nsiala's potential move to Omonoia Nicosia now appears unlikely, with the latest information suggesting the Cypriot club have prioritised another position ahead of their deadline on September 9.
The Rangers defender was seemingly absent from the club's latest training gallery ahead of Wednesday's match against St Mirren, prompting further questions over his situation at Ibrox.
Nsiala remains outside Derek McInnes's first-team plans and had been linked with a move to Omonoia, with the Cypriot transfer window still open.
However, the latest update indicates that a move to Nicosia is not currently expected to happen, at least not imminently.
Sources indicate change in Omonoia direction
A source told us that it now looks like it may not happen. The source continued by informing us that Omonoia are selling a current first-team winger and have prioritised his replacement in the wide areas.
Anastasios Chatzigiovanis looks set to depart Cyprus for Greek side OFI Crete, with Nicosia targetting Romanian side FCSB's David Miculescu as his replacement, this is their current priority.
However, while this rules out a permanent acquisition for the 22-year-old French defender, he may still be an option within the loan market. The Cypriot window shuts tomorrow, but the loan window for clubs within the island nation stretches to September 14.
That represents a change in the picture surrounding Nsiala, with Omonoia seemingly concentrating their efforts on finding a replacement for the winger they are expected to sell rather than pursuing the Rangers centre-back.
Former AC Milan youth captain Nsiala had appeared to be a potential fit for the Cypriot champions, particularly after the departure of left-footed centre-back Nikolas Panayiotou to FC Utrecht.
Panayiotou completed a three-year move to the Dutch club, with an option for another season, after making 150 appearances for the Shamrocks.
Nsiala is also left-footed and remains outside McInnes' plans at Rangers, making a permanent departure a potential solution for all parties.
However, the latest information suggests that Omonia's immediate priority lies elsewhere.
Nsiala remains a Rangers player, for now, with the latest update casting doubt on the possibility of the 22-year-old making the move to Nicosia.

John Souttar future addressed
Elsewhere, Gers boss McInnes has provided an update on the situation of fellow out-of-favour Ibrox defender John Souttar.
Like Nsiala, the Scotland international has not featured in a single competitive matchday squad for the ex-Hearts boss and was linked with a move away from Govan during the window.
“I think the likelihood is that John has been told his long term future would be best elsewhere,” McInnes said at today’s press conference prior to St Mirren’s visit to Ibrox on Wednesday evening.
“He still has good opportunities, there’s still an opportunity to move, there’s a couple of windows, a few windows still open across Europe, and there is a few things looking possible for John.
“I don't want to speculate how much that is, but I think there is one or two things that he's quite keen on, and one or two things that's maybe getting a wee bit of traction.”
“Of course, our window to bring players in is shut, but there’s still that possibility for John, and probably for him to go and get regular football and peace of mind, that might be the best option for him.
“But if he doesn't move, and there isn't anything that materialises, then of course we honour the contract, and he comes back into things.”
