Rangers have made their first signing of the deadline day window, with the official announcement for Portuguese forward Yousef Chermiti expected imminently following the successful completion of his medical.
The 21-year-old is set to join on a five-year deal, with an initial fee reported at £8 million, potentially rising to £11 million. This makes Chermiti Rangers’ most expensive signing since Tore Andre Flo’s £12 million move in 2000, surpassing the club’s past high-profile acquisitions such as Ronald De Boer, Michael Mols, Brian Laudrup, and Ryan Kent.
Chermiti emerged from Sporting Lisbon’s academy and made his breakthrough in 2023, scoring three goals in 22 appearances for the Primeira Liga side after an impressive run with Sporting B. His performances caught the attention of Everton, who secured his services in August 2023 for £14 million.
However, Chermiti struggled to find his footing at Goodison Park, failing to score for the first team across two seasons. His only goal for the Toffees came in an EFL Trophy match for the under-21 side.
Despite his limited impact in England, Rangers’ management see Chermiti as a player with significant long-term potential. Under the stewardship of manager Russell Martin and sporting director Kevin Thelwell, the club believes the forward can be developed into a pivotal figure, both on the pitch and as a financial asset.
The club views him as a forward who can add competition, depth, and a different dimension to their attacking options that include new signing Bojan Miovski and Danilo.
This signing comes amid a busy summer at Ibrox, which has already seen several key departures. Hamza Igamane completed a move to Lille, while Jefte has joined Palmeiras. Further exits, including striker Cyriel Dessers, are expected in the next few hours, freeing up significant resources to reinvest in the squad.
Coupled with the guaranteed revenue from the UEFA Europa League group stage, Rangers now have the financial capacity to pursue an ambitious transfer window, arguably one of the club’s most significant in decades.

In addition to Chermiti, Canadian defender Derek Cornelious is also in Glasgow, having passed his medical and poised to join on an initial loan deal with an option to buy.
Meanwhile, reports suggest Rangers are closing in on another high-profile acquisition, Jerusun Rak-Sayki, who has reportedly turned down interest from Old Firm rivals Celtic to join Ibrox.
Chermiti’s arrival signals Rangers’ intent to build a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts. With a mixture of experienced internationals and high-potential young players, the club is positioning itself for both immediate success and long-term growth.
