Former Aberdeen manager Neil Warnock offered some eye-catching remarks about former Rangers boss Philippe Clement during his appearance on Sky Sports tonight, and his comments will no doubt raise a few eyebrows among the Ibrox support.

With Clement newly installed at Norwich City, Warnock revisited their brief crossover in Scottish football - and it was clear he had made his mind up about the Belgian from just a single meeting.

That meeting came in Warnock’s first match as Aberdeen manager, the 2–1 Rangers win at Ibrox in February 2024.

Rangers started sharply that afternoon, Rabbi Matondo firing the hosts ahead after only seven minutes as Clement’s side set the tone early.

Aberdeen managed to level right on half-time through Bojan Miovski, a player who, in a neat twist of fate, now wears Rangers colours after his summer move to Ibrox.

Any hope Warnock’s side had of building on that equaliser disappeared midway through the second half when former Canaries star Todd Cantwell restored Rangers lead.

In the closing stages, Dujon Sterling was sent off, a decision that added late drama but didn’t alter the outcome.

For Warnock, it was a typically fiery introduction to Scottish football, the first of just eight matches he would oversee during his short stint at Pittodrie, a run that yielded two wins, two draws and four defeats.

Despite the brevity of that spell, Warnock revealed that Clement left a strong impression on him - and not a positive one.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the veteran boss said: “It’ll be interesting to see about this guy, Clement.

“When I went up to Aberdeen for my short spell, he was at Rangers, and I thought he was a little bit arrogant when we played them.

“So, when I saw Norwich had taken him on board, I was surprised.”

For Rangers fans, who grew used to Clement’s calm, calculated manner at Ibrox, still remember the Belgian positively – despite the poor ending to his spell in the Rangers hot seat.

Warnock’s interpretation will likely feel familiar in one sense: opposition managers often read Clement’s self-assurance as something altogether different.

Within the Rangers support, that same steel was typically seen as clarity of purpose - a manager who didn’t rattle easily.

Warnock then turned his attention to the challenge awaiting Clement in the Championship.

He said: “It’ll be interesting to see if he can get Norwich to improve.

“They’ve lost every game so far at home, haven’t they?

“But they got a good result the other day. So, it’ll be interesting to see how they go, because that’s a fabulous club, isn’t it,” he said referencing Norwich.
