Rangers are interested in signing Leicester City winger Stephy Mavididi, with the Ibrox club prepared to spend around £7 million to secure his signature this summer.

According to journalist Matthew Hendry, Rangers and Leicester have already held positive talks over a potential deal as Derek McInnes looks to add further attacking quality to his squad ahead of the new campaign.

The reported fee would represent one of the biggest investments of the club's summer transfer window and underlines Rangers' determination to strengthen in the wide areas.

Mavididi joined Leicester from Montpellier in 2023 and played a key role in the Foxes' promotion-winning Championship campaign before featuring regularly in the Premier League.

He also featured on a weekly basis as City suffered a second successive relegation during their return to the second tier.

The 28-year-old is capable of playing on either flank but is most effective from the left, where his pace, dribbling ability and direct running have made him a consistent attacking threat throughout his career.

Before moving to France, Mavididi came through the academy at Arsenal and also had spells with Juventus and Dijon, gaining valuable experience across some of Europe's top leagues.

"He is an all-around centre-forward Stephy is,” said former Arsenal scout Brian Leonard who discovered him.

“He’s strong, quick, he's got good ability. The first time I saw Stephy he was unbelievable... playing for under-11s [at Southend United]."

Leicester links continue

A deal for Mavididi would further strengthen the growing relationship between Rangers and Leicester this summer.

The Foxes, now managed by former Rangers head coach Russell Martin, have also been linked with a move for John Souttar to reunite him with his brother Harry Souttar, who plays for the EFL League One side.

Should an agreement be reached, Mavididi would provide McInnes with another proven option in the final third as Rangers prepare for the start of the Premiership season and European qualifiers.

Positive discussions between the two clubs suggest negotiations are progressing, although it remains to be seen whether Leicester are willing to sanction the winger's departure for the reported £7m fee.
