Rangers kicked off their 2025/26 season with a UEFA Champions League qualifier at Ibrox against 20-times Greek champions Panathinaikos.
Russell Martin was able to include new signings Nasser Djiga, Max Aarons and Joe Rothwell from the start in his Ibrox managerial bow.
18-year-old Findlay Curtis was also given a start on the wing in an unorthodox front three alongside forgotten men Danilo and Kieran Dowell.
Rangers started brightly but the Greek’s quickly took control with Jack Butland producing some key early saves to keep Rangers in the game.
Into the second half and Rangers would take the lead through a wonderful strike from Curtis.
The teenager picked the ball up on the left hand side and drove centrally to release a thunderstrike that was diverted into the far corner via a slight deflection for his first competitive Rangers goal.
His celebrations showed what it meant to the Balfron-born lifelong Gers fan, and the crowd showed their support with a rapturous ovation.
Curtis would be instrumental again, as he was fouled by Giorgos Vagiannidis after skipping away from the Greek international, resulting in the former Inter Milan player being shown a second yellow card.
Rangers would make changes, rotating the full front three with Hamza Igamane, Cyriel Dessers and Djeidi Gassama, making his Rangers debut, all coming on.
And Gassama would make an immediate impact, like Curtis he drove in from the left before releasing a strike from range past Bartlomiej Dragowski to make it 2-0.
The new man got the crowd on his feet every time he gained possession, and his goal was the icing on the cake of an impressive debut performance.
Rangers would hold on to take a two-goal advantage to Athens next week as they look to progress to face either Servette or Viktoria Plzen in the next round.
The Swiss side, who Rangers faced just two seasons ago, have a 1-0 lead following the first leg in the Czech Republic.
Martin hopes to have Thelo Aasgaard available for the second leg, with the likes of Dessers, Igamane and Gassama all a week further down the road and ready for more minutes too, the Gers are in an advantageous position for progression but the job is not over yet.
Rangers face English Championship side Middlesbrough ahead of the second leg next week.
