Leicester City are reportedly targeting former Rangers midfielder John Lundstram as they look to strengthen their squad on deadline day.

The 32-year-old is set to leave Trabzonspor after the Turkish club agreed to terminate his contract, paving the way for a return to English football.

Lundstram has emerged as a target for Leicester, with reports suggesting the Foxes are now well placed to bring the experienced midfielder back to England.

The former Rangers player spent last season on loan at Hull City, where he played a role in their promotion campaign.

Hull secured their return to the Premier League by beating Middlesbrough 1-0 in the Championship play-off final, with Lundstram featuring in the promotion-winning campaign. He made 34 appearances across all competitions during his season with the Tigers.

Lundstram returned to Trabzonspor following the conclusion of his loan spell, but he has since found himself down the pecking order at the Turkish club and could now drop to League 1 to join up with Russell Martin, another ex-Ranger.

Trabzonspor are now prepared to pay off the remaining year of his contract to allow him to leave on a free transfer, according to reports.

Rangers connection

Lundstram will be a familiar name to Rangers supporters after spending three seasons at Ibrox.

The midfielder joined Rangers in 2021 and made 152 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals in all competitions.

He was part of the Rangers side that reached the Europa League final in 2022, scoring the deciding goal against RB Leipzig in the semi-final, and helped the club win the Scottish Cup and League Cup during his time in Glasgow.

Lundstram left Rangers in 2024 to join Trabzonspor, where he signed a three-year contract.

His time in Turkey has now taken an unexpected turn, with the midfielder potentially set for another return to English football.

Leicester looking for experience

Leicester are looking to strengthen their squad after a difficult start to the 2026/27 campaign.

The Foxes were relegated from the Championship last season and are now attempting to rebuild under former Rangers boss Martin.

They will not however, move for out-of-favour Gers' defender John Souttar and are now targeting Hibs centre-back Warren O'Hora.

Lundstram's experience in the Championship and Premier League could make him an attractive option for Martin as Leicester look to push towards an immediate return to the second tier.

The midfielder's successful campaign with Hull also means he arrives with recent Championship experience, having played a role in their promotion before returning to Trabzonspor.

Reports indicate Leicester have now reached an agreement to bring Lundstram to the club, with his transfer expected to be completed before the English deadline tonight.
