There is a strong Rangers connection behind Graeme Murty's latest visit to Leicester City, with the former Ibrox boss returning to see another man whose career has been closely linked with the club.
Murty recently visited Leicester's Seagrave Training Ground, where he spent a day learning alongside Russell Martin and his coaching staff.
"A brilliant day of learning yesterday at the amazing Seagrave Training Ground of Leicester City," Murty wrote on LinkedIn.
"Thank you so much to Russell Martin and his incredibly welcoming staff."
Difficult Ibrox spells for Murty and Martin
The meeting brings together two men who experienced difficult spells as Rangers coaches. But their relationship actually stretches back much further.
Murty was the man who brought Martin to Ibrox as a player in January 2018.
Martin arrived from Norwich City on a six-month loan as Murty looked to strengthen his Rangers defence during the second half of the 2017/18 season after taking charge until the end of the campaign following Pedro Caixinha’s sacking in October and the Gers failed bid to appoint Derek McInnes as manager that season.
The experienced Scotland international went on to make 16 appearances for Rangers and scored once during his loan spell. His only Rangers goal came in a 2-1 victory over Hearts at Tynecastle.
However, Martin's time at Ibrox also included two particularly painful Old Firm experiences.
Rangers finished third in the Scottish Premiership that season and suffered back-to-back heavy defeats against Celtic, losing 4-0 at Hampden in the Scottish Cup before being thrashed 5-0 by Brendan Rodgers' side at Parkhead.
Martin returned to Norwich at the end of his loan spell, while Murty's tenure as Rangers manager came to an end following the Celtic Park hammering.
Russell Martin's failed Ibrox return
Martin would eventually return to Ibrox in very different circumstances. He was appointed Rangers head coach in 2025 but his tenure lasted just 123 days before he was dismissed.
Murty's own  Rangers career had begun much earlier, initially taking caretaker charge during his role as U20’s coach before being appointed permanent manager for the remainder of the 2017/18 campaign.
After leaving the first-team position, Murty remained with Rangers' academy and continued working within the club's youth structure under Steven Gerrard before eventually departing in 2021.
He subsequently joined Sunderland in October 2022 as their Head of Professional Development Phase, working with the club's developing players.
That role came to an end this summer, with Murty now exploring his next coaching opportunity.
Murty not set for Leicester coaching role
His Leicester visit therefore represents an interesting next step, particularly given his personal connection with Martin.
Martin is now attempting to rebuild his managerial reputation at Leicester after his difficult Rangers spell.
The former Rangers boss has also been linked with a move for current Ibrox defender John Souttar, potentially creating another Rangers connection between Martin's current club and his former employers.
The visit for Murty, however, was framed as a day of learning rather than the beginning of a formal Leicester appointment. There is no indication that he has joined Martin's staff or will do so.
Instead, it represents a full-circle moment between two men whose professional relationship began when Murty brought Martin to Rangers as a player in 2018.
