Rangers midfielder Mohammed Diomande is reportedly set to undergo a medical in Istanbul as Corum FK close in on a potential £4.5million transfer.

The Turkish club are understood to be discussing the final details of a deal with Rangers, with Diomande invited to Istanbul on Tuesday for medical checks and the formalities surrounding a potential move to the Super Lig.

Diomande came off the bench during Rangers' defeat to Hibernian on Sunday and could now be on the verge of ending his spell at Ibrox.

McInnes set to lose important player

The reported development comes despite Derek McInnes making it clear that he wants the midfielder to remain part of his Rangers plans.

Diomande recently revealed that he had spoken directly with McInnes about his future and said the manager had told him he wanted him to stay in Glasgow.

“When I speak to the manager, he wants me here,” Diomande said.

Rangers refuse to deny transfer links on Diomande

However, questions surrounding a possible move to Turkey have continued, with Corum now reportedly advancing negotiations with Rangers.

McInnes was asked about the Turkish club's interest after the late defeat to Hibernian and admitted that conversations may be taking place, although he was unable to confirm whether an official bid had been submitted.

“I don't know about that,” McInnes said. “I think there may be some conversations going on about that. I don't know if there's been an official bid or anything like that.

“But I think I can't really comment on it, to be honest.”

The situation could therefore develop quickly, with Diomande's reported trip to Istanbul potentially signalling that negotiations have reached an advanced stage.

A fee of around £4.5m has been reported for the Ivorian midfielder, although the exact structure of any potential agreement remains unclear.

Diomande joined Rangers from Nordsjaelland in January 2024 and has established himself as an important first-team player during his time at Ibrox.

His potential departure would leave McInnes with another decision to make in the closing stages of the transfer window, particularly given the manager's apparent desire to retain the midfielder.

The reported medical and contract discussions represent the next significant steps, with Rangers yet to officially confirm that an agreement has been reached.

Rangers have added several central midfielders this summer with Vanja Dragojevic, Dan Neil and Cammy Devlin all arriving in Govan.

They joined Diomande, Thelo Aasgaard, and Tochi Chukwani at the club. With Lyall Cameron, Jose Cifuentes and Belgian star Nicolas Raskin all linked to departures along with the Ivorian this summer.

Bailey Rice remains under contract with Rangers, but has been loaned to Neil McCann's Kilmarnock for the season.
