Rangers have sold three left backs this summer, Jefte to Palmeries, Ridvan Yilmaz back to Besiktas and young Robbie Fraser to Neil Lennon’s Dunfermline Athletic.

Brentford teenager Jayden Meghoma has been recruited to fill the gap but it is clear that a new first choice left sided full back is needed before tomorrow’s deadline slams the transfer window shut.

Rangers have been linked with Sassulo’s Scottish left back Josh Doig this summer, along with Europa League opponents AS Roma’s Anass Salah-Eddine but a new target has emerged today.

Swedish defender Jonas Jakob Rouhi has been tenuously linked online with a switch to Ibrox.

The 21-year-old Juventus defender has been linked with a switch to Russell Martin’s struggling side to take the starting position from Meghome ahead of the closing of the window.

A product of the IF Brommapojkarna youth system in his homeland, Rouhi has been with Juventus since 2020, and has been a regular throughout their various age groups, including their B-side, Juventus Next Gen who play in the regional Serie C, the third tier of Italian football.

He has also appeared in five top tier Serie A matches for the Turin based side, but is looking for a move away from the Italian giants in search of regular first team football.

Rangers would prefer a loan move with an option to buy but Juventus would be keen on a straight sale with a buyback option for the Sweeden Under 21 international.

Not yet capped for his full national team the defender is also eligible for both Morocco and Poland via his parents, as well as Italy, having gained citizenship from his six years in Southern Europe.

His strengths include his passing ability and dribbling, he is better with short passes than longer balls, which would suit Martin’s possession-based style of play. At 21 he also fits the player trading model Rangers and their new hierarchy are looking to implement.

This move, if it is indeed in the works, is still in the very early stages, with the window closing tomorrow Rangers are very eager to add to their defensive options, particularly at left back, with Meghoma currently the only natural option in that position, with right backs Dujon Sterling and Max Aarons both able to fill in.

Aarons has been unimpressive since signing on loan from Bournemouth, particularly in his left back appearances whilst Sterling remains out long term after an injury picked up last season vs Benfica in the UEFA Europa League.

Rangers also look set to add Canadian defender Derek Cornelious on a permanent transfer from Marseille, finally adding a natural left footed option for the centre of defence.

Time is running out for Rangers to make the additions required, it is set to be a busy deadline day at Ibrox both in an out.
