Rangers could be set to lose goalkeeper Kieran Wright on a short-term loan deal to a fellow Scottish Premiership club.

The 26-year-old is currently third choice at Ibrox behind Jack Butland and his understudy Liam Kelly and has yet to debut for the club despite entering his tenth year as a professional with the Gers.

It is looking that he may head to Kilmarnock on a very short loan deal for their match this weekend with Celtic.

With first choice Killie goalkeeper Max Stryjek out for up to sixteen weeks with a medical “anomaly” identified by the Ayrshire club during his “routine annual medical” test and backup Eddie Beach unimpressive in his debut against Hearts and at fault for two goals against Rangers at Ibrox, Killie sought out a short-term solution.

They completed the loan signing of Celtic keeper Tobi Oluwayemi who started for the side in their matches against Aberdeen and Falkirk, but with the 22-year-old English stopper ineligible to face his parent side Killie are scrambling for options.

After interest in bringing in either of Hearts duo Zander Clark and Craig Gordon fell through midweek, interest has turned to Wright.

The one-time capped former Scotland Under 21 keeper will be in Rangers squad for tonight's match in the UEFA Europa League against Roma but could head down the M77 to agree a deal with Killie which would see him make his debut, and likely sole appearance, against Rangers Old Firm rivals at Celtic Park on Sunday.

Whilst Wright has not featured for the Rangers first team he has played more than 60 SPFL matches during loan spells with Albion Rovers, Raith Rovers, Alloa Athletic, Partick Thistle and Dumbarton over previous seasons in both the Championship and League 1.

If Wright does depart then fourth choice Rydnn McGuire will be promoted into the first team squad for Sunday’s trip away to Dundee, taking on Wright’s usual matchday task of helping Butland and Kelly with their warmups pre-match.
