Rangers-linked left-back Jayden Meghoma is reportedly set to join Championship side Portsmouth on loan from Brentford.
Sky Sports' Lyall Thomas reports that the 20-year-old defender is closing in on a move to Fratton Park as he looks to secure regular first-team football.
Meghoma was linked with a return to Rangers earlier in the transfer window after Tuur Rommens suffered an injury.
The Brentford defender had previously spent time on loan at Ibrox, and Rangers were understood to have considered bringing him back to the club as they assessed their options at left-back.
Rangers opted for James Penrice
However, the Gers ultimately opted for a different solution.
Rangers completed a loan move for former Hearts defender James Penrice from AEK Athens, with an option to make the transfer permanent, rather than pursuing a second spell for Meghoma.
The decision leaves the defender now set to continue his development in the Championship, where he will have the opportunity to gain further senior experience.
The Portsmouth move represents another step in the young defender's development after he made his first-team breakthrough at Brentford.
The club instead have Penrice available as an option at left-back alongside their other defensive choices, following Rommens' arrival in January. Ashton Scally remains as third-choice backup despite missing a lot of pre-season with injury.
Meghoma's proposed move also comes with the Scottish transfer window approaching its conclusion, meaning Rangers' decision to recruit Penrice rather than revisit their former loanee appears increasingly significant.
