Rangers have been drawn against Annan Athletic in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup this evening.

Danny Röhl and his team will welcome the Scottish League 2 side to Ibrox on the weekend of January 17/18th after they overcame Highland League side Buckie Thistle in the third round this past weekend.

Annan, managed by former Republic of Ireland international Peter Murphy currently sit eighth out of ten in the fourth tier – with three wins, four draws and seven defeats from their 13 matches.

The clubs have met six times in their history, the first meeting being a 0-0 draw at Galabank in September 2012, during Rangers spell in the old Scottish Third Division.

They met three more times that season, with Rangers winning 3-0 and 3-1 before the Galabankies shocked Ally McCoist’s men with a 2-1 victory at Ibrox in March 2013.

Ally Love and David Hopkirk stuck two early second half goals to stun Ibrox – Andy Little pulled one back later in the match but could not save Rangers from an embarrassing defeat.

The sides then met in the 2016/17 League Cup group stage during the tenure of Mark Warburton, a match most remembered for being the debut of Rangers flop Joey Barton from the substitutes bench.

Barrie McKay and Martyn Waghorn would score a goal each as the Gers ran out 2-0 winners on the day.

The most recent meeting between the sides was a 3-0 win for Rangers in the borders which interestingly was the debut of another high-profile Rangers flop, Aaron Ramsey, who was recentley linked with a return to Scottish football.

On a wet and windy night Rangers would get the victory thanks to goals from Filip Helander, Kemar Roofe and Fashion Sakala – as Giovanni Van Bronckhorst’s side took their first step towards an eventual Scottish Cup win over Hearts at Hampden in May of that year.

Elsewhere Celtic have been drawn away to sixth tier Auchinleck Talbot, who defeated fourth tier Dumbarton 4-0 away from home in the third round, whilst holders Aberdeen are at home to Raith Rovers, who recently appointed Dougie Imrie as their new manager.

League leaders Hearts will face Falkirk at Tynecastle – the Bairns fresh off a goalless draw at Ibrox earlier this afternoon.
