No Rangers return for Hagi as Romanian linked with Italy and Poland

Rangers have set up camp at St George's Park as Russell Martin begins shaping his squad for the new season — with injuries, exits, and fresh arrivals already shaping the narrative of a pivotal pre-season.

Rangers have spent their week in Burton-on-Trent training at the England National Team’s St George's Park National Football Centre as the side gear up for their new era and the new season.

The full Rangers squad travelled down south, with a few notable exceptions. Robin Propper did not travel down following a bid being accepted by Rangers for the Dutchman from former club FC Twente, believed to be around £1.5 million.

Out of favour players Leon King, Jose Cifuentes, Clinton Nsiala and Ben Davies all also remained North as they look set to depart Ibrox in one way or another.

Also absent is Dujon Sterling as he continues to rehab from his achillies injury picked up in the UEFA Europa League last season. Ridvan Yilmaz is at St. George’s but is training separately due to a knock.

Rabbi Matondo is also absent due to injury, but Rangers are still hopeful the Welsh winger recovers in time to depart before the end of the window while his replacement Djeidi Gassama has been spotted with the team already in the new Rangers training range ahead of the completion of his move from Sheffield Wednesday.

In recent weeks there have been suggestions that released Romanian midfielder Ianis Hagi could attend the camp on a trial basis to gain fitness ahead of the new season, however, it appears Russell Martin in the end did not go through with this after Hagi’s representatives looked to engineer a return to Ibrox.

Hagi will now move on to a new club after five years at Ibrox, with clubs in Italy linked alongside Polish giants Legia Warsaw.

Rangers may not be finished with Romanians however, with some tenuous links resurfacing about a move for FCSB midfielder Darius Olaru.

The 27-year-old was linked with a move to Govan in January, but no move transpired, however some talk has emerged from Romania over a renewed interest in the international.

This seems to just be local talk however, and there appears to be no official move on Rangers end.

However, with the quiet nature of our business you just never know what is going on with Kevin Thelwell, Dan Purdy and the rest of the Rangers recruitment team behind the scenes.
