James Tavernier described reaching 100 league goals as a “really proud moment” but quickly shifted the focus to Rangers collective standards after their 3-0 win over Dundee at Ibrox.

The captain opened the scoring early in the second half from the penalty spot, a landmark strike in a match where Rangers had to remain patient before late goals from Danilo and Djeidi Gassama added gloss to the scoreline.

“Personally, a really proud moment to reach that milestone in the league,” Tavernier said.

“But I couldn’t have done it without all the players I play with at the club, so it’s a big thank you to them.

“I thought Nico [Raskin] should have scored the goal, but we got a penalty and I managed to put it away. 100 goals, it’s something I’ll look back on when the boots eventually hang up and really appreciate it.”

Despite the comfortable final margin, Tavernier admitted Rangers were not at their fluent best.

“I felt we could have controlled the game a lot better, but we didn’t give them much chances on the other side,” he said.

“I think we can enjoy this win, but then be really focused because it’s still a long way to go. We’ve just got to go game by game… We have to be humble about things and keep working really hard.”

He also stressed the importance of being decisive in key moments, particularly after a goalless first half.

“I think it’s important that us as a team really take advantage of our attacks,” he said.

“We’ve been guilty in the past where we’ve been on a counter-attack or created a really good chance attacking-wise, we’ve not really chosen the right pass or the right options.

“We got two goals late for Danilo coming on and Gassama getting a goal.

“That’s what you need, you need everyone to be involved and the subs really made an impact today.”

Defensive solidity, meanwhile, continues to underpin Rangers winning run, with another clean sheet secured.

“We knew that they were in form and we knew that it was going to be a tough game,” Tavernier said.

“So we felt that we’d keep a clean sheet, we’d nullify their chances and we were going to create chances ourselves. We have to be clinical enough to put them away.”

The fan support inside Ibrox also left an impression - with Rangers making a call for supporters to get behind the team prior to the match.

“Seeing the fans that stayed back, it’s really nice to see,” he said.

“A lot of boys maybe have not experienced that, but it’s good to see and the boys are really taking in what it means. It’s down to us to keep that going.”

Despite eight straight wins across all competitions and belief growing  Tavernier remains grounded.

“Yes, it’s the belief there and it’s just about the consistency,” he said.

“It’s only us that are going to beat ourselves.

“We will enjoy tonight, stay humble, then keep working really hard and concentrate on the next game.”
