Former Rangers goalkeeper Kieran Wright has joined the Hearts on a deal until January after leaving Ibrox this summer without making a competitive appearance for the club.
Wright has signed a short-term contract to bolster the club's goalkeeping options for both domestic and European fixtures with third choice Zander Clark injured.
The experienced shot-stopper spent 11 years with Rangers, having joined the club's setup as a youngster, but was unable to make a competitive first-team appearance during his time in Govan.
He leaves Rangers having instead gained his senior experience through a series of loan spells, including time with Livingston, Kilmarnock, Airdrieonians and Dumbarton.
Wright searching for new opportunity
The goalkeeper's departure from Rangers this summer brought an end to a lengthy association with the club.
Despite spending more than a decade on Rangers' books, Wright never managed to make a competitive appearance for the first team, with opportunities primarily coming elsewhere.
The 27-year-old had been looking for his next club during the summer and had several opportunities to secure a move.
However, Wright was unsuccessful in trials with Dumbarton, Queen of the South and Dunfermline earlier in the summer.
Dumbarton, who competed in League Two, were among the clubs Wright had previously represented on loan, while Queen of the South are in League One and Dunfermline compete in the Championship.
His latest move now gives him the chance to stay within Scottish football’s top tier with the Jambos.
Experience across Scottish football
Wright brings considerable knowledge of Scottish football despite his lack of competitive appearances for Rangers.
His previous experience includes loan spells designed to provide regular first-team football, while his time around the Rangers senior setup also gave him exposure to the demands of playing for one of Scotland's biggest clubs.
The new club will hope that experience can strengthen their goalkeeping department during the first half of the season.
The short-term nature of the agreement also gives Wright an immediate opportunity to train at the highest level and remain within full time football.
The club confirmed the move by welcoming him to the squad, describing him as an “experienced shotstopper” who will bolster their goalkeeping options both domestically and in Europe.
