Former SPFL star linked with Ibrox move as striker hunt intensifies

As Rangers navigate pre-season with a depleted frontline, the club has turned its attention to a former Scottish Premiership standout to bolster their attack.

Rangers have entered pre-season with only Danilo and young Josh Gentles available as forward options for their opening friendly fixtures of the summer.

With both Hamza Igamane and Cyriel Dessers linked with moves away from our famous old club, and neither featuring in pre-season matches thus far, the Ibrox side have been connected with a host of strikers as they look to fill what appear to be imminent gaps in the squad.

In recent weeks, links to Lawrence Shankland have come and gone, while moves for Israeli forward Dor Turgeman and Croatian striker Matija Frigan has seemingly cooled.

However, one potential signing that appears to be gathering momentum is a return to Scotland for a familiar SPFL Premiership name.

Former Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovski has reportedly emerged as a target for both Rangers and Celtic this summer.

His £6.8 million move from the Dons to La Liga side Girona has not gone according to plan, with the North Macedonian netting just four goals in 21 appearances.

As a result, he has fallen down the pecking order, and Girona, part of the City Football Group, are now said to be open to a sale.

Miovski scored 44 goals in 98 games for Aberdeen, a record that proves his pedigree in the Scottish top flight.

He would arrive at Ibrox with a full understanding of the demands and physicality of the league, and crucially, no need for a bedding-in period.

Reports suggest his agent has already been in discussions with Rangers officials regarding a possible move, and insiders have hinted that “big things are happening” on the transfer front. Miovski appears to be at least one name firmly on the shortlist.

Meanwhile, another deal that looks close to completion is the signing of Sheffield Wednesday winger Djeidi Gassama.

New head coach Russell Martin told the media that the transfer is “all done at our end,” suggesting confirmation is imminent.

Whether Miovski and Turgeman arrive could well depend on the futures of Igamane and Dessers. In terms of outgoings Robin Propper looks set to return to FC Twente, with Martin confirming a bid has been accepted for the defender from his former club.

Rangers also look set to pay off Leon King, while Ben Davies and Jose Cifuentes have both been told they are surplus to requirements and have not travelled to England with the team.

Also not present are Clinton Nsiala, who Martin confirmed can leave, but it is yet unclear whether this will be a loan or a permanent departure.

Dujon Sterling is also not with the squad but this is due to him continuing a personalized rehab for an injury picked up at the end of last season.

With UEFA Champions League qualifiers against Panathinaikos approaching later this month, the next few weeks will be crucial as Rangers look to bolster their attacking options ahead of a pivotal campaign.
