Ovie Ejaria has made a public plea for a new club after becoming a free agent, with the former Rangers midfielder revealing he is looking for the “right opportunity”.
The 28-year-old former England U21 international spent last season with Real Oviedo in La Liga, making eight league appearances as the Spanish side were relegated, but is now without a club and has taken to LinkedIn to put himself on the radar of potential suitors.
Ejaria has highlighted his versatility in midfield, describing himself as capable of playing as a No.6, No.8 or No.10, while he can also operate on the left wing.
The London-based midfielder also pointed towards his previous experience with Liverpool, Sunderland, Rangers, Reading and Oviedo as he looks for the next chapter of his career.
“I’m currently a free agent and looking for the right opportunity," he wrote.
He added: “If there’s an opportunity or you know of a club looking for midfielder - (6, 8 & 10) or someone who can play as a left winger, please feel free to DM me.”
Gerrard was disappointed by Ejaria's Rangers exit
Ejaria's latest plea will bring back memories of his spell at Rangers, where he worked under Steven Gerrard during the 2018/19 season.
The midfielder initially arrived at Ibrox on loan from Liverpool and made a strong impression during his time in Glasgow, although his spell was ultimately cut short.
Gerrard admitted at the time that he was disappointed by Ejaria's decision to leave Rangers and felt the midfielder had passed up a significant opportunity.
Speaking to the Glasgow Times, Gerrard said: “Am I disappointed he's gone? Yes. Do I think it's the right decision? No, because I think he had an incredible opportunity here.”
However, Gerrard also made clear that he did not want to keep a player who was unhappy, stressing that he wanted footballers who were desperate to play for Rangers.
Ejaria's decision came despite showing flashes of the talent that had convinced Rangers to bring him to Ibrox.
Ejaria produced a 'magnificent' Rangers display
One of the standout moments of his Rangers spell came against FC Ufa in the Europa League play-off round.
With Lassana Coulibaly injured, Ejaria came into the starting XI for the first leg at Ibrox.
Rangers won that first leg 1-0, with Ejaria then playing a key role in the return fixture in Russia as Gerrard's side progressed despite being reduced to nine men.
His performance earned significant praise from his manager.
Gerrard told Rangers TV: “I thought he was magnificent and I think that is his strongest 90 minutes that he has given us so far.
“I think we have seen a lot of flashes and a lot of halves, some good performances, but I think that’s his first real excellent performance that he’s announced against a good team.
“I thought he was excellent from start to finish.”
Ejaria now looking for another opportunity
Almost eight years on from that European run, Ejaria is once again looking for a new opportunity.
His post makes clear that he is open to playing in several midfield roles, as well as on the left flank, and is actively inviting clubs to make contact.
The former Rangers man will now be hoping his experience across England, Scotland and Spain can help him secure the next move of his career.
