Former Rangers coach Cameron Campbell has been handed a key role in Sebastien Pocognoli’s new Scotland coaching staff, with ex-Gers goalkeeper Chris Woods also remained in the national team setup.

Campbell has been appointed as one of three assistant coaches under new Scotland boss Pocognoli, continuing a rapid rise which has taken him from Scottish football’s academy system to prominent roles in Germany and the English Premier League.
The 35-year-old is currently an individual coach at Tottenham Hotspur, having previously worked under Thomas Frank and now Roberto De Zerbi.
His coaching journey began within Aberdeen’s youth setup before taking him to the Right To Dream Academy, where he became Head of Lower Academy.
Campbell subsequently returned to Scotland with Rangers as a Professional Phase Coach and the manager of the Gers’ U18’s side before moving to RB Leipzig.
Now he has been selected by Pocognoli for his first Scotland coaching staff, with the new head coach highlighting the glowing recommendations he received about Campbell from contacts in both the Premier League and Germany.
“I was very impressed by Cameron Campbell when I met him,” Pocognoli said.
“The recommendations I have received on him from trusted contacts in the English Premier League and in Germany, has been outstanding.”
Chris Woods remains on Scotland staff
Campbell will work alongside Alan Irvine and Luke Benstead as Scotland’s assistant coaches, while former Rangers goalkeeper Woods keeps the position of Goalkeeping Coach.
Woods brings a wealth of experience to the role following a distinguished playing career which included 43 England caps, as well as spells with Queens Park Rangers, Norwich City, Rangers and Everton.
The former goalkeeper has subsequently worked in coaching roles with Everton, Manchester United, West Ham and the United States national team.
Retaining Woods gives Pocognoli’s staff an experienced figure with extensive knowledge of international football and elite goalkeeping.

The Scottish FA’s Chief Football Officer, Craig Mulholland, also a former Ibrox employee added: “Although we have only worked together for a short time, it came as no surprise to me, and the association, that Sebastien was as meticulous in assembling his backroom staff as he is every other aspect of his job.
“He had a clear vision for the profiles he wanted but took his time in making the right selections. I am grateful for the support of the Scottish FA board in supporting the recruitment of the staff who Sebastien wanted to complete his team.
“I think what you can see now is an exciting group of staff that blends potential with experience, with no shortage of innovation and hunger.

Campbell and Woods will now prepare for Scotland's first camp under Pocognoli, with the new head coach set to name his inaugural squad ahead of the UEFA Nations League campaign.
Former Rangers striker Steven Naismith has also joined Tony Docherty’s coaching staff with Scotland U21’s.
