Dumbarton have completed the loan signing of Rangers goalkeeper Mason Munn, with the 20-year-old moving to The Rock for the remainder of the season.
Munn arrives at Dumbarton with an opportunity to establish himself as a regular number one after a difficult spell across two clubs last season.
The Northern Ireland Under-21 international spent the first half of the 2025/26 campaign with Dunfermline Athletic but was eventually dropped by manager Neil Lennon before making the move down to League Two with Forfar Athletic for the second half of the season.
He impressed during his time at Station Park, although an injury disrupted his spell and ultimately limited him to only a handful of appearances either side of the setback.
Munn joins Sons
Now, Munn has been handed another opportunity to play regular senior football with Dumbarton, also in the fourth tier.
The move comes at a particularly important time for Frank McKeown's side following an injury to current Celtic loanee Aidan Rice.
Harry Broun had been deputising, but his costly error against Stranraer at the weekend quickly attracted attention online and Dumbarton subsequently moved to bring in another goalkeeper.
Munn will now compete for the number one jersey, with McKeown making clear that the Rangers youngster has arrived with ambitions of becoming a regular.
“Mason had strong interest from clubs in the Championship and in England earlier on in the window and it didn’t quite materialise, so it’s excellent business for us to get this deal over the line and get him to The Rock,” he said.
“Mason is a player that Rangers’ coaching staff have extremely high hopes for, and it speaks volumes about the environment we have here that we are being trusted again to support their best talent through the next phase of his career.
“He gained vital experience last season during his loan spells, but now he’s determined to be a number one and get regular games under his belt.
“Competition for the number one jersey will be fierce, which can only help all of our keepers in their development.
“Mason has all the attributes and attitude to go far in the game and myself and the coaching team are excited to work with him.”
The Sons also signed former Gers' youth player Tom Lang this week after his release from Falkirk.
Rangers pathway
Munn joined Rangers from Glentoran in 2022 and has long been regarded as one of the promising goalkeeping prospects at the club's Auchenhowie academy.
He has already experienced first-team football, making his Rangers debut against Fraserburgh in 2025 under Philippe Clement.
"You see the support of the fans and that is good for the young guys to have an experience like that,” the Belgian said after his debut.
“Days like this are important and it is crucial as they need to step in at the right moment and the right level."
Fourth choice at Rangers
His arrival also changes the goalkeeping picture at Rangers.
With Ivor Pandur and Liam Kelly currently ahead of him, Rydnn McGuire is now effectively the third-choice goalkeeper and has been involved in pre-match warm-ups ahead of Munn.
This gives the keeper the chance to make an impact and return to Ibrox ready to make a return to a higher level.
