Rangers are expected to move for Kilmarnock goalkeeping coach Fraser Stewart following Sal Bibbo's departure to join Frank Lampard's backroom staff at Coventry City.

Bibbo leaves Ibrox after playing a key role in the club's coaching setup under Russell Martin and Danny Rohl, with the experienced goalkeeping coach now set for a new challenge in the English Premier League under the former Chelsea and England midfielder.

His exit leaves Derek McInnes searching for a replacement, and Stewart has emerged as the leading candidate.

The current Kilmarnock goalkeeping coach previously worked under McInnes at Rugby Park, making him a familiar figure to the Rangers manager as he continues to shape his coaching staff ahead of the new campaign.

Stewart also boasts strong Rangers connections.

He is the son of former Rangers player and long-serving goalkeeping coach Jim Stewart, while his brother Colin Stewart also served as the club's goalkeeping coach before leaving Ibrox in 2024.

McInnes has often turned to Gordon Marshall during his managerial career, with the former Celtic goalkeeper forming part of his coaching teams at previous clubs.

However, that reunion is not expected on this occasion after Marshall only joined Hearts at the end of May just prior to McInnes making the switch to Ibrox.

He departed St Johnstone with Paul Gallacher heading the other way from Gorgie to Perth.

That leaves Stewart as the standout contender to replace Bibbo, with Rangers expected to act quickly as McInnes finalises his coaching team before competitive action gets underway.

The move would continue McInnes' policy of bringing in trusted staff members who understand his methods while adding another coach with deep Rangers ties to the club's backroom setup.

Rangers have allowed Kieran Wright to depart this summer on a free transfer. Liam Kelly has an extended break due to his involvement with Scotland at the World Cup.

Jack Butland trained today but is expected to depart the club for Premier League newcomers Hull City in a swap deal involving Croatian stopper Ivor Pandur.

Pandur remains in North America with his national team, which leaves Rangers with only youth keepers for the start of pre-season.
