Derek McInnes has confirmed Rangers are on the verge of completing the signing of Olwethu Makhanya while revealing Oliver Antman is closing in on his Ibrox exit.

Speaking ahead of Friday's Premiership opener against Dundee United, the Rangers manager admitted the club hope to announce Makhanya's arrival within the next 24 hours as they continue working on another signing before the transfer deadline.

McInnes also confirmed Antman has travelled to complete a move away from Ibrox after a deal was agreed.

Makhanya set for Rangers announcement

The Rangers boss revealed the Philadelphia Union defender is close to becoming the club's latest summer signing.

"We'll probably be able to announce one either tonight or tomorrow," McInnes said.

Asked specifically about Makhanya, he added:

"Yes, that's one that is close. As I say, we're pretty close to maybe announcing that. So it would probably be safe to say that one looks pretty good for us."

McInnes explained Rangers identified the young defender as a player capable of strengthening a squad short of defensive options.

"He's another one with a similar profile in terms of age. He's got a lot of athleticism. He has good potential.

"While he's coming from the MLS and he's coming to a different country and a different type of football, we feel he's got the attributes that can cope with that."

The Rangers manager admitted defensive reinforcements remain a priority before the transfer window closes.

"When you look at it defensively, we're short on numbers.

"We probably still need to look to bring in another couple of defenders before the window closes."

Rangers still chasing another signing

McInnes also confirmed Rangers remain in negotiations over another addition, with the manager indicating he wants further attacking reinforcements.

"We're still actively trying to do one more, which is quite an important one for us in terms of position-wise.

"We haven't given up hope that both lads could be on board for us going to Dundee on Friday."

When asked if the second target was more of an attacking player, McInnes replied:

"Yes. I think we're strong in certain areas and there are some key areas that we need to bring one or two in."

Oliver Antman deal agreed

McInnes also provided an update on Antman's future after the winger was left out of Rangers' plans.

"I believe a deal has been agreed and Oliver has travelled to finalise that.

"Other than that, that was this morning or last night. I don't know where it's at beyond that, to be honest with you.

"But I'm pretty sure that will work out for the boy."

Antman's departure is expected to generate a profit for Rangers after interest emerged Anderlecht this week, with McInnes now confirming the move is close to being completed.

With Makhanya nearing his arrival and another signing still being pursued, Rangers' transfer business looks set to continue right up until the window closes.

Elsewhere, Inside Ibrox can reveal the club have at least one first-team trialist with the club, although details on who are limited.
