Former Rangers midfielder Alejandro Bedoya appeared to take a swipe at current Ibrox defender Emmanuel Fernandez after his error nearly handed Falkirk a goal during Wednesday night's Scottish Premiership clash.
The Philadelphia Union midfielder, who played for Rangers between 2011 and 2012 was reacting to an Instagram post from Rangers defender Olwethu Makhanya following the Light Blues' 2-1 victory at Falkirk.
Makhanya posted a picture celebrating the hard-fought win, with a number of players and supporters responding in the comments.
Among them was Bedoya, who has a connection with Makhanya from their time together at Philadelphia Union.
The former United States international wrote: "Played well bro! Congrats. Think you need a new partner next to you."
The comment appeared to be a reference to Fernandez, who endured a difficult evening at the Falkirk Stadium despite Rangers eventually leaving with all three points.
Hard night for Fernandez at Falkirk
Fernandez was involved in two major moments which almost proved costly for Derek McInnes' side.
The first came in the build-up to Falkirk's equaliser.
The Rangers defender was caught out of position as the hosts attacked, before going to ground looking for a foul which was not given.
Falkirk continued the move and Ethan Ross delivered the cross which ultimately resulted in Kosta Nedeljkovic turning the ball into his own net.
Fernandez was then fortunate not to be punished for another mistake after the break when the Nigerian centre-back attempted to play a pass across the Rangers penalty area, but the ball was intercepted by Falkirk striker Jacob Murrell.
Murrell suddenly found himself with a huge opportunity to put the hosts ahead. However, Ivor Pandur came to Rangers' rescue with an important save to deny the American forward.
Murrell had two excellent opportunities in the second half as Falkirk looked capable of turning the game around.
Instead, Rangers survived the pressure before Lawrence Shankland struck his second of the evening late on to secure a 2-1 victory.
The result gave McInnes' side back-to-back Scottish Premiership wins after the 1-0 victory over Aberdeen at Pittodrie.
Fernandez's performance, however, was one of the talking points despite the three points.
Bedoya and Boyd criticise Fernandez
Kris Boyd was also highly critical of the defender's display, arguing that Fernandez's current form was causing concern among his teammates.
The former Rangers striker specifically highlighted Fernandez's involvement in Falkirk's goal and his second-half error which almost allowed Murrell to score.
Bedoya, meanwhile, the Instagram comment appeared to offer a more light-hearted take on what was a difficult night for Fernandez.
Makhanya spent time with Philadelphia Union before moving to Rangers, and Bedoya is a long-serving figure at the MLS club. The pair have therefore maintained a relationship despite Makhanya's move across the Atlantic.
And Bedoya's comment suggests he was keeping a close eye on his former clubmate's performance in Scotland.
Rangers produced another unconvincing display but Shankland's second-half winner ensured McInnes' men secured a second consecutive league victory.
Pandur's intervention also proved crucial, preventing Murrell from capitalising on Fernandez's mistake and potentially changing the outcome of the match.
Fernandez will now be looking to put the Falkirk performance behind him as Rangers prepare for their next challenge.
