Rangers’ narrow victory over Aberdeen on Sunday offered coach Michael Beale valuable insight into the players who could shape the club’s future while revealing who may depart Ibrox in the summer.

Young stars Ianis Hagi and Ridvan Yilmaz turned in solid performances, earning ratings of 7/10 on Sofascore, giving Beale a taste of the talent poised to propel the Gers into an exciting new era. With further signings over the break, next season could prove thrilling.

The most crucial decision, however, was starting goalkeeper Robby McCrorie, who deserves to retain the role for the remainder of the campaign.

The 25-year-old made four saves and exuded confidence in possession, showing no signs of rust despite not featuring for the first team since August 2021.

With Allan McGregor likely leaving upon contract expiration, McCrorie should get the chance to claim the number one spot.

The lifelong Gers youth product has gained experience on loan at Berwick Rangers, Greenock Morton, Queen of the South and Livingston, keeping 18 clean sheets and earning a Premiership opportunity.

McCrorie first featured for Rangers in August 2021 amid a Covid-19 outbreak, deputizing for McGregor and Jon McLaughlin and helping secure 1-0 wins over Alashkert and Celtic, the last Rangers keeper to notch a clean sheet against their Old Firm rivals.

Described as “model professionals” by former boss Steven Gerrard, McCrorie boasts fine character.

Though forced to wait 18 months for another opportunity, Beale may finally give the shot-stopper a deserved run, uncovering a potential star for next season.

With talent emerging and McCrorie staking a claim, the future looks bright at Ibrox under the new manager.
