Lewis Morgan, the former Celtic attacker currently starring for New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer, has professed his lifelong support for Rangers despite enjoying an 18-month spell at their bitter rivals Parkhead.

The 26-year-old Glasgow native admitted in a recent interview that while representing Celtic was a major achievement from a footballing perspective, he has always remained a staunch Rangers fan at heart.

"“That’s a tough one to answer,” Morgan said when asked whether he preferred Rangers or Celtic.“Rangers. I grew up a Rangers fan. I got the chance to play for Celtic, from a footballing perspective that was a big deal. Now that I’m not there anymore and playing over here I’m back to being a Rangers fan.”"

Morgan’s comments are sure to infuriate the Celtic faithful who believe you can never truly support their club if you have lined up for Rangers.

By the same token, Morgan is unlikely to receive a warm welcome at Ibrox given he turned out for their adversaries across the city.

The winger’s revelations evoke memories of Scott Allan, the Hibernian midfielder and boyhood Rangers fan who Celtic signed in 2016 only to barely give him a chance to feature before his career went off track.

Lewis Morgan confirms he’s a Rangers fan

There is speculation Celtic may have swooped for Morgan primarily to ensure he did not end up at Ibrox, though there is no evidence to conclusively prove this.

With 15 goals for the Red Bulls last season, Morgan has re-established himself as one of Scotland’s most promising talents.

Though his future remains uncertain, his latest remarks suggest a move to his beloved Rangers may appeal should an opportunity arise to return home.

For now, however, Lewis Morgan’s focus will be on continuing his impressive form in MLS.
