Former Glasgow Rangers defender Alan Hutton has urged the club to sign a replacement for winger Ryan Kent, should he depart Ibrox this summer.

The 26-year-old Kent, whose contract expires at the end of this season, has yet to commit his future to the Gers amid interest from English Championship side Burnley.

While manager Michael Beale still has attacking options like Tom Lawrence and Rabbi Matondo, Hutton believes his old club will need to reinforce if their star winger moves on.

Hutton, who spent six seasons with Rangers, tipped Beale to strengthen the squad in a bid to make his mark. Beale took the helm in November after Giovanni van Bronckhorst was sacked.

“Of course they will ,” Hutton told Football Insider. “Beale will be looking at his squad right now. Lawrence is still to return, we’ve seen what Matondo can do, Sakala is still there, Cantwell too. There are options but if you lose your number one player, your go-to guy, Beale will want to bring somebody in.”

“That has been a talking point since he came in the door. He will want to put his own stamp on the team. I’m sure if Kent does depart he will want to bring in reinforcements,” Hutton added.

While Rangers have added the likes of Todd Cantwell to their attacking ranks in January, the loss of a talisman like Kent would undoubtedly leave a void.

The winger has been instrumental to the Gers’ success in recent seasons, helping them win their first Premiership title in a decade last year. His pace, trickery and goal threat would need replacing should he opt to move south of the border.
